11 Republican State Lawmakers have FLED the state and are in HIDING to avoid voting on a bill to place strict restrictions on the use of climate change causing gases...and one Republican is threatening to SHOOT a POLICE OFFICER if they come to get him!!

Democrat Governor, Kate Brown dispatched state police to round up the absent Senate Republicans, at least 2 of whom are needed to form a required quorum for conducting business in the 30 member chamber controlled by Democrats

One of though however, Sen. Brian Boquist, made it clear that he will NOT go easily stating he will take down ANY OFFICER who came for him!!

He said "This si what i told the superintendent. Send bachelors and come heavily armed. I'm not goign to be a political prisoner in the state of Oregon. It's just that simple"

He doubled down and said "nothing thinly veiled. I have been in political coup attempts. I have been held hostage overseas. I have been jailed politically overseas. Not going to be arrested as a political prisoner in Oregon, period"

The 11 senators walked out of the Oregon captial to block a vote on a climate bill. Democrats issued a "WANTED" poster printing the pictures of the 11 that said "Oregon Senate Republicans are hurting Oregonians across the state, including their own districts, by refusing to show up for a vote. It's time for them to come back to Salem and do their jobs"

Sen. Dallas Heard said he had fled to an undisclosed state with "grumpy kids in the car"

Under state law, senators who don't show up will be fiend $500 a day ..

Oregon Senate President Peter Courtney plead with them to return who asid the legislature needs them for the people of Oregon to pass budgets and to take care of their citizens

The bill has already passed the House and was expected to pass senate by a Supermajority of Democrats. But without at least 2 republicans, there wasn't a quorum to hold a vote.

Right Wing Milita groups have expressed support for the absent Republicans and opponents of the bill to cut greenhouse gases below 45% by 2035.

Captain Timothy Fox said they have been monitoring the safety of legislators that could be compromised if certain threatend behaviours are realized after shutting down the legislator for a day

No Republicans have been caught so far but police have been in contact with several of them

Oregon 3%, a right wing MILITIA said it would be provide security, transport and REFUGE for absent Republicans and said "We will stand together with unwavering resolve, donig whatever it takes to keep these senators safe and to stop liberals from pushing their fake agenda on us. These people are our HEROES"

Do you think these Republican freaks are "Heroes"?

As I understand it democrats did it in the past in Oregon.

Biggest problem I have is the announcing he plans to murder police and that hyping up the terrorist groups who want to offer protection.

Any particular reason why their vote isn't just void if they're not present or does that itself present a risk if representatives are physically prevented from showing up to vote?

That sounds like it has to be illegal.

I understand the principle, but it's a ridiculous tactic no matter who is using it. I'd say that it sets a bad precedent if not for the fact that it's been done multiple times now.

It doesn't get to a vote because there aren't enough present to make a quorum.

Thinking about it a bit I first thought why not change the law/rule so that there is no minimum number to make a quorum to avoid situations like this. And then I realize that itself causes problems where you potentially can have individuals from one party or another meeting and voting without the opposing parties there to vote against.

Is there any such system where such approach/abuse can be avoided or there's always bound to be some loop hole? I was gonna suggest these representatives should do their job but I guess stalling a vote is technically doing it if it goes against what their party wants.

So... fire them and hire/elect new people that will actually do their jobs? I feel like that's a provision that should be in place.

Walking out should be counted as simply abstaining from voting.

I don't know why these tactics are allowed.

^ It's relevant because TC is extremely liberally biased and likely made this topic to point out how loony the Republicans are for pulling such a stunt.
