My first job, back in CT in the mid 90s was at the literal Mom and Pop variety store across the street from my house. Part of that involved running a lotto machine.
Numbers can actually sell out. 111, 619, 420, 666, and a handful of other numbers would regularly sell out by the time the balls were drawn because if too many people hit on that number, the lottery would lose money on the day. Funny thing is, you think that gas stations and bodegas make their money on milk, cigarettes, newspapers, soda, beer, etc? Nope.
