More than 2000 people have won as much as 5000 smackers in a North Carolina lottery draw after they ALL chose 0-0-0-0

A Whopping 1012 people who paid $1 and chose the 4 0's in a line for the Pick 4 game on Saturday bagged the top prize of 5000

Winning tickets that paid 50 cents get half the money and are entitled to 2500

Altogether means the company is handing out 7.8 million in prize money, the biggest payout sum in the history of the Carolinas

It beats the 7.5 million won by players on August 11, 2012 when the numbers 1-1-1-1 proved to be popular

The odds of matching all 4 numbers known as "quads" are only 1 in 10,000

Players can either pick their own numbers or select a quick pick

The winners were all spotted lining up outside the NC Education Lottery building with their IDs and Social Sccurity cards to get it in person

The Lottery centre wrote "We're excited to meet our #Pick4 winners today! more than 2000 players will be dropping by the lottery claim centres and those who can't make it in person can mail it in for up to 180 days.

The Carolina pick 4 game is held twice a day at 3pm and 11:22pm and raises more than 650 million a y ear for education programs

My first job, back in CT in the mid 90s was at the literal Mom and Pop variety store across the street from my house. Part of that involved running a lotto machine.

Numbers can actually sell out. 111, 619, 420, 666, and a handful of other numbers would regularly sell out by the time the balls were drawn because if too many people hit on that number, the lottery would lose money on the day.

Funny thing is, you think that gas stations and bodegas make their money on milk, cigarettes, newspapers, soda, beer, etc? Nope. The ~5% they make on lotto between the numbers and scratch offs completely dwarfs all the other things they sell.
