Board 8 > Virginia Guard who KILLED a Chinese Man playing POKEMON GO gets 30 YEARS!!!!

24 y/o Johnathan Cromwell, the former security guard in Virginia who SHOT and KILLED 60 y/o Jiansheng Chen, who was playing POKEMON GO in his minivan, was sentenced to 30 YEARS in PRISON!!

Judge John Brown followed the jury's recommendation when he handed the harsh sentence as he could faced up to 43 years for second degree murder and weapons charge

Chen, who spoke almost no english, was in his minivan at a parking lot and playing the popular gaming app when he was confronted by Cromwell and was shot in January 2017!!..

Cromwell claimed the vehicle was moving and he opened fire out of fear for his life after repeatedly telling him to stop and acted in "self defense"

But prosecutors said broken glass was found under the van's shot out windows that disproved his claim. Chen was sitting in the driveway of Riverwalk Clubhouse parking area, which was also a virtual "gym" location for the Pokemon Go app game.

Family members of both the victim and defendant appeared in court as friends said of Cromwell being a "good man" who wanted to be a POLICE OFFICER

They now plan to appeal as his defense lawyer said he was a "para-police officer" who was licensed to carry a gun and had a statutory duty to protect people and make arrests

Cromwell worked for only 2 MONTHS on the job and the community association said guards are NOT allowed to carry GUNS and didn't know why he carried a 9mm pistol with a 17 round magazine and had even MORE on his belt.

He fired 10 rounds in the motorist vehicle window that killed Chen instantly and argued he had "every right" to shoot

Chen's brother said he couldn't speak english at all except basic words like thank you, sorry and bye.

The recording was played in court that hear a voice shout out "stop, stop, stop the car" then "put the car in park" as they argued that was enough to shoot and that he was about to be "hit" but it does not explain why the driver's side window was shot out and NOT the front shield.

Commonwealth's Attorney Nancy Parr said justice was served and hope that it will bring closure to the Chen family and his grandchildren and nephews.
