The family of a Chinese Scholar is demanding the DEATH PENALTY on a 29 y/o Grad Student who brutally raped and murdered their daughter in Illinois!!

The former University of Illinois doctoral student was convicted of kidnapping, raping and murdering 26 y/o YingYing Zhang.

The jury found 29 y/o Brendt Christensen guilty on the horrific attack of YingYing where he used a baseball bat to attack her and then DECAPITATED her in June 2017

He looked straight ahead and showed emotion on the verdict as Zhang's father called it a "step toward justice" who said in a statement translated in english as they describe how they've missed their daughter and can't imagine how they will live on without her.

Defense attorney's have sought to spare him of death by acknowledging from the beginning that he killed the visiting scholar but prosecutors disagreed over how and why

Elisabeth Pollock, his laywer said he was someone who lost control and battled DARK THOUGHTS as the prosecutors will focus on his brutality of the attack and the defense arguing mental illness

Illinois no longer has the death penalty but he could be sentenced to death because he was convicted in federal court

Brendt posed as a police officerr to lure him into his car after deciding he wanted to kill someone RANDOM that day. Earlier that day he approached another girl but she refused

The muscular Christensen forced the 5'4 Zhang into his apartment where he raped and killed her in the brutal attack. She was just on her way to sign a lease when the renter reported her missing after not showing up

Zhang had only been in America for 2 MONTHS as it was her first experience outside of China..her body has never been found..

Brendt's former girlfriend said he BRAGGED on the murder and that she was his 13th victim. He confessed after he showed up for a SEARCH on the student AND at the vigil.

She wore a wire for the FBI to bust him despite her nervousness on being caught. He told her he choked Zhang and decapitated her and buried her in an undisclosed location

He never explicitly claimed he killed 12 other women on audio but can be heard telling her not to worry that she won't be his next victim because she's TOO BIG citing "150 vs 100lbs" was a major factor in him not killing her!!

He alluded to the murder as a "legacy" for him as he always fantasized about murder and only now acted on it. Prosecutors argued he was attempting to be a serial killer who would never be caught. It was an obsession for him to "kill just for the sake of killing"

Now his lawyers are seeking mental health counselors to avoid the death penalty after his life started spiralling out of control where he got Straight A's but by late 2016 he started getting F's in all his classes.

Zhang, the daughter of working class parents aspired to be a professor in crop sciences to help her family financially and wanted to study in America to make her dream happen and make her parents proud.
