But I don't know which one to start with

Katakana
Hiragana
Kanji

Basically you fight Japanese characters and you have to know switch each one of them says. Then as you progress, the stores start slowing switching from English to Japanese

Here is a short video -

Start with hiragana, go to katakana, then go to kanji. That's the traditional ordering for learning characters.

Don't expect to get a ton out of the kanji one. It's way too broad fro anything other than actual study to help you learn. The other two I am sure you can memorize from a game

So I woke up this morning and I still remember what all 5 of them look and sound like. Wow, that worked pretty well. I can't wait to get more into it

This is a fantastic deal for $6 so far

I still have trouble with katakana tbh. Hiragana is ezpc. I learned it all in around 2 weeks and can write and read pretty well. Katakana has alot of similar looking characters. I am kinda bad at those.

Do they incorporate much vocabulary and grammar? I assume the kanji one has to involve memorizing some meaning but I get the impression it's more about learning individual kanji rather than a lot of vocabulary as it is used in sentences.

I guess I could probably just play a regular game in Japanese, but the concept of gradually converting to more of the language and introducing things in ways to help you learn is intriguing. I studied some Japanese formally but I'm rusty and would love something to help me refresh in a fun way.

I learned hiragana and katakana through a separate game. They're not hard to learn at all, except I keep getting confused with some characters ( vs , vs , probably others).

I picked up Kanji Combat because it was recommended by my friend, and it's been very helpful so far. It's nice to think about kanji as picture words, and sometimes you learn a character and you can put it to use based on something you've seen before (like is or nihongo, which is how to spell the language's name. Or is or gakkou, which is the word for school.)

Yeah

You learn the basics right now, and the start doing vowels A, I, U, E, O. How to write/read it and how to say it. Then you go fight Hiragana monsters by selecting the Attack (correct letter) and hitting them. Pick wrong and you do zero damage

Then it will start to pick up like full words and then sentences. Not that far yet, but Im loving it.
