Asked the kid if he wanted the disc protection shit and he said yes.

I can understand earning money by scamming idiot adults (though the practice should be banned at the governmental level and the people who came up with it should get 25 years prison time), but its a fucking kid who doesn't know any better. You're gross, gamestop. You're just fucking gross. They were like 12 or something and they just wanted to play Rocket League. And you tricked them and stole their money, you filthy animal pretending to be a company composed of human beings.

I hate that they still try to sell you used games as new. You go in and buy a new game and they walk over to the damn wall, and pull the case that's been all touched over by random people and shit, and then take out a disc from a drawer and put it in the case.

Nah, bro. I want the game that hasn't been opened and still in the package.

My favorite Judge Judy moment was when some b sold a picture of a cell phone on ebay for a couple hundred dollars.

"It's not my fault she can't read!"

Judge Judy looked over the page printout carefully and says "your ad says weight: 4oz. This [the photo] does not weigh 4 ounces!"

She had to pay up lol.

Depends on the insurance. Car involve a lot of external interaction that means something can happen despite your best practices. The stuff under disk protection it either so rare it seems an impossibility, so is a sign you mistreat your own property.

It's not expensive, but who doesn't make jokes about extended warranties being for suckers.

The disc protection is a useless service. There's so many caveats that it's pretty much impossible to actually claim it.

Here's the limitations section:

4. LIMITATIONS OF COVERAGE. THIS AGREEMENT DOES NOT COVER:
A. Any product owned or operated outside the United States and its Territories;
B. Repairs and/or service required as a result of any alteration of the Product, repairs not made by Us or the use of supplies
not recommended or recognized as industry equivalents.
C. Relocation, installation or reinstallation of any Product.
D. Damage (including rust or corrosion) due to causes beyond Our control including, but not limited to, misuse, abuse, riot,
vandalism, theft, fire, flood, wind, lightning, freezing, power failure, power reduction, inadequate power supply, unusual
atmospheric conditions, telephone failure, or Acts of God.

E. Expendable item(s), including, but not limited to, batteries and other operating supplies and consumable item(s).
F. Repairs and/or service required as a result of use of non-compatible software or cartridges.
G. Telephone or other lines connecting to the Product.
H. Purely cosmetic scratches, peeling, dents or any other similar damage.
I. Any preventative maintenance.
J. Any product used for rental or commercial purposes.
K. Any failure covered by insurance or any other warranty or service contract.
L. Any pre-existing conditions that occur or arise prior to the effective date of this Plan.

I dunno, in practical terms I don't feel like they're that pedantic about it. They just write that as a way to set guidelines but the interpretation is ultimately subjective.

I bought flight insurance for a flight ticket once cause it was a flight to a very important meeting (it was my phd defense) and I could not be late.

Sure enough, my flight was delayed just long enough that I missed my connecting flight by 10 minutes. Despite this, the insurance wouldn't cover it because one of its stipulations was that the original flight delay had to be longer than 6 hours to qualify for insurance protection. The missed connection flight was essentially deemed "my fault" since there was nothing wrong with the flight, and I still got to my final destination within that 6 hour limit.

The stipulations on travel insurance are very excessive and make it very hard to get your money back unless the flight was fully cancelled (and even then, they don't cover "acts of God" such as weather events, just maintenance issues).

Heh, the one and only time I ever bought flight insurance I ended up having to cancel the flight so I got all my money back minus the $40 I spent for the insurance. It could have been worse I guess.

Well that's true, the insurance is more useful if it's you cancelling the flight due to sickness or other reason. It's much harder if it's on the airline/airport side.

I said rare OR a sign of not caring for your property well. Yeah, I've seen enough to say the disks were handled by chimps on uppers, but then that's why limits on insurance exist: they aren't supposed to cover being moron that can't figure you why using a game disk for a Frisbee and them jamming it onto the spindle blindly stops parts of it from working.

That's a different scenario

If in fact GS is selling "disc" protection for a digital code then that can be considered a scam.

That's not what was implied in the topic though
