OK OK hear me out hear me out...

I just don't pay for it. the first semester anyway. They're gonna give me the bill and I'm just not gonna pay for it. So that gives me months to look for some big time scholarships ($30,619, it can be $29,361 if I get the cheapest dorm, I'm working on transfering)

Now I know y'all are gonna say well what am I gonna do for the other one or three semesters? simple, I'll just aim for some big time scholarship and or get some merit aid. I can't believe I didn't think of this sooner!

I don't understand why you do it. I'd honestly rather you not do it, but...enough people have given enough helpful advice that's fallen on deaf ears that I think we can just sit back and say, "well, we tried."

So, at least it's good for a laugh.

Wrong. I literally got off the phone with the financial aid lady and she told me all that would happen was that I couldn't register for spring courses and my grades might be held

You know, I may be mistaken when I say this, but I do believe that you need good grades (in addition to professor recommendations) to receive those, and you said that your grades might be withheld if you don't pay for those classes.

That "might" is more on the certainty be held. If it isnt paid by the end of the semester TC probably wont be allowed to take the semester final exam.

The way is goes for scholarships vs loans are different. Some school's scholarships require you to remain in CONTINUOUS enrollment in that school or else you have to start paying them back. You may think you're getting some "big time scholarship and or get some merit aid"

Guess what happens when you are on the hook for the 1st one? You don't get another. They don't pay you 30k and then another 30k and another. You get 30k. That's it

You're likely going to only get one scholarship anyways. They don't hand them out like candy. Getting enough for what one actually needs in the loans can be hard enough sometimes.

I have lost track of the exact details of TC's situation in all this but any particular reason why TC couldn't obtain scholarships for the first semester? Grades weren't good enough, didn't bother to apply, or simply not enough to cover the fees? I only vaguely recall him saying he was told he was set only for that to change and the window for the scholarship passed already.

That is not what happened at all. I was applying for a few scholarships, then I was told in January I got into West Point's prep school which is free so I just decided to drop my scholarship applications because why bother? I was notified in April that I couldn't get a medical waiver which is already considered too late to get any big time scholarships.

I'm only accepting $5.5k because I'm getting almost $10k a year through my work and tuition is $12.6k a year. For some reason even though I'm attending online the university estimate my cost of attendance would be like $32k even though only a third of that is tuition?

I'm accepting extra in case I need supplies and then I'm gonna just immediately pay back what I don't use and pay the rest of the loan with my bonus every year so I'll be able to try to get out with no extra debt.

According to AU's financial aid people, American is a private school therefore there's not a lot of money to go around. Plus, I technically got accepted for the Spring semester. What I'm doing in the fall is considered a "non degree" program which means I don't get ANY financial aid at all for that semester
