The tournament just started its third day 1 (1a, 1b, 1c) Top 300 or so make the money and how it works is if I survive 12 hours I move onto day 2 with all three pools and it is looking like, right now, the money is assured if I make it to day 2.

It was a $2,650 buyin but I paid 50 dollars and made it through four rounds to get here, so pretty excited to see how I do.

Hopefully I don't bust right away lol.

300k starting chips with 800/1600 blinds.

Update: Had A10 suited, flopped top two pair and the board got scary so I played it conservatively but then he bet the pot on the river (46k) and I didn't think he had it so I called.

I was correct, he had a missed straight draw. Up to 345k chips now!

Since you got a relatively free buy in, I figure the correct strategy would be to play very loose early on to try to hit a lucky draw or something and gain a big lead that you can coast on until the money? I hate tournaments so much but I always had the best success when I got an early big hand like that.

Nah, just try my best because why not? I don't like to play loose it usually ends up badly for me. I just lost 50k because a guy called me down with 5s when I had AJ and the board was so dangerous, and he called my raise as BB despite being way out of position to do so. It's like "bleh" but what can ya do.

Well yeah but what is "best" in this case? Here 301st is the same as 5000th which is $0. So you have to optimize your chance to get 300th position, even if it means you risk losing in 5000th.

Especially since I'm assuming 300th place gets their buy in back, which for you would be a $2.5k profit.

Poker is regulated, but if it is done properly it is legal in almost every state to play.

The poker restrictions are mostly on bank transfers and stuff on their side.

Poker is legal in any state for free. Only a couple have online poker that is legal regarding money (Nevada, New Jersey, Pennsylvania. Though like 4 or so others have it in the works). ESPECIALLY after the new Wire Act interpretation from the Trump Admin, which calls into question if intra-state Online Poker for money is legal even now.

I found out the hard way when my funds were frozen and confiscated when Full Tilt and Pokerstars bit the bullet almost a decade ago. = / lol

PA just legalized, and it was supposed to start July 15th. Still waiting on the actual poker sites to open up though.

Yeah, that's how Full Tilt and Pokerstars were. And, they would disguise their names on your cards when you put in money.

It's definitely not legal! But, that only matters if you get caught! (Which of course you won't get caught because it is technically the website that is breaking the law here.) Needless to say, I am not sure you are getting that million if you win though! lol

So the structure of this tournament of 3 day 1s mean that the other 'day 1s' are onto round 2 tomorrow at 1, which means I just need to survive 12 hours to make day 2 so the number of players isn't truly the point but for information's sake:

809 registered
746 alive (4 or so hours left to register though, so the places paid is going to balloon I think which I am OK with)

Chip Leader has 1.564m

Average is 325k

A lot of sites you can buy into the main tournament or you can play in qualifiers. Some start as a free roll, which finishing say top 9 might grant you free entry into a $50 tournament, which top 9 might grant you free entry into a $500 tournament. Etc etc.

It sounds like he bought into a lesser qualifying tournament and won the free entries eventually into this tournament.

No, Satellites.

It was a 6 step process. I started on step 3, won, step 4, won, step 5, won, and finally won step 6 which was to buy in fresh 600 dollars.

I am feeling good about myself because step 6 had 12 spots out of like 140 players and when it ended I was chip leader.

Not like you're complaining, though.
