What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, duh.

Beating a boss fight only to have the next cutscene show you got stomped. Losing the battle is a game over, by the way.

I like how in Final Fantasy getting shot over and over in combat is nbd but being held at gunpoint in cutscenes is still a thing

I also like it when there's a boss who is supposed to beat you for plot reasons, but the devs don't make them hard enough so you just completely own the shit out of them and then inexplicably lose in the cutscene

I mean they did go and rescue bowsers evil castle so he could go back to kidnapping the princesss and the princess was along for the ride, meaning these three are often fighting side-by-side and it's often used as the go-to party in the game it happens in so jrpg logic kind of disables your platformer to party gam logic here

Then upon winning a fight with a genocidal murderous villain, hero spares their life because every life is precious and people deserve second chances.

Although I prefer this type of video game logic where the world includes things that are much stronger than you early on
