This is a topic to rate the contest strength of potential newcomers in the current contest environment.

I will pick the characters to rate and discuss for each day from user nominations - whoever the 3 most nominated characters are at that time. If there are more than 3 I will pick randomly. You can nominate any number of characters at any time, but you cannot nominate the same character twice.

All characters who were present in the 2018 Character Battle will NOT be eligible. Otherwise you can nominate any character that has appeared in video games; even comic book characters. This will exclude real-life athletes who have only appeared in long running sports series, however I will accept those who have their own games such as Shaq. I will accept nominations for iconic gaming duos too, if both members of said duo are named in the title of a game (Banjo-Kazooie, Sam & Max Hit the Road, etc).

Each day will have a separate topic, and nominations will carry over. As far as actually rating the character's contest strength; I ask that users rank a characters potential strength with one of the following qualifiers - LAW Fodder, Low Fodder, Mid Fodder, High Fodder, Fodder Line, Low Midcarder, Midcarder, High Midcarder, Near Elite, Elite, LAW Tier (capable of beating Link). I will average all the ratings given to a character to come up with their final ranking. I have included a highlighted entrant from Character Battle X on each tier of the strength rankings below, to provide a baseline for each.

Note that LAW Fodder is meant to be a tier reserved for the weakest possible characters to put into a contest. A character will only be placed there if at least 3/4ths of the voters for that day agree on the LAW Fodder rating, and no ratings above Low Fodder are given. If either of those conditions are not met, the character will not be eligible for the LAW Fodder tier.

Hendrix - mid fodder. If you aren't a fan, he isn't instantly distiguishable like Slash is.

Minster - LAW fodder. Even as a meme, the game is far too obscure and forgotten for him to have any measurable strength whatsoever.

Yennifer - don't really know the Witcher but because not-the-leads in games/series that don't have a Noble Niner rarely have much strength, I'll say mid fodder.

Agree with Mid Fodder for Jimi Hendrix. I think he is recognizable as a 60s cultural icon, but his music is old enough that a good chunk of Gfaqs probably has little experience with it. They might know All Around the Watchtower and Purple Haze and not much more.

I'll go with Low Fodder for the Snow Monster. I think his design will probably get enough people memeing to get him out of LAW range.

Agree with Mid Fodder for Yennefer. Geralt did pretty well in CBX and Yen is heavily involved in the story of Witcher 3 and has some popularity. However she doesn't really get much benefit from TJF and didn't appear in The Witcher 1 & 2, for what its worth.

Abominable Snow Monster: LAW Fodder. Since Spring Breeze Dancin' is bottom 3 despite a memeable name and a minor cult classic for a source game, I can't see the Monster escaping this fate.

Jimi Hendrix: I simply don't think people are going to see him as a video game character, so for the most part, they won't vote for him. He also doesn't have the cultural cachet to show some margin of strength despite the real-life person factor, so Low Fodder it is.

Yennefer: Agree with Mid Fodder.

Yennefer of Vengerberg (The Witcher) - Mid Fodder

I know very little about Witcher but I respect Geralt's performances enough to assume prominent secondary characters from it aren't completely hopeless. People seem to actually care about the plot too, unlike Elder Scrolls!

Abominable Snow Monster (SkiFree) - Low Fodder.

Probably on the bottom end of it though. SkiFree as a game would be law fodder because absolutely nobody here actually cares, possibly-not-abysmal playrate be damned, but the Monster is a funny option that anyone who played the game will recognize.

Jimi Hendrix (Guitar Hero) - Low Fodder.

Musicians in general are too easily boxed in to particular subcultures to do much here. Gamefaqs' subculture is gaming, not music, so they're almost all going to be weak unless they have near universal recognition without also getting outright dismissed or ignored by anyone not in their dedicated fanbase. The pool is further restricted because I don't see gamefaqs voting for a female performer. And even those few who qualify would face further issues due to questionable relevance as "characters."

Basically, if they're not Elvis or Michael Jackson, I don't even think they're even worth considering. Maybe the Beatles are around that level collectively, but none of them individually. Maybe Weird Al just because he's well known enough, everyone likes Weird Al, and the parodies of mainstream culture might appeal in particular to nerds.
