profDEADPOOL 09/15/19 9:18:08 PM #6:	Fate/Zero 1 I didn't care about the first scene with the revelation that Kiritsugu's wife is going to die because of him at all considering we literally just met them. Tohsaka and Kirei's dad circling him as they give him instructions on what to do with the Grail War was v interesting visually, and I have a feeling it's meant to foreshadow something, tho I am not quite sure what yet. It felt very shark horro moviey, which was a cool vibe, hopefully that pays off later. Rin was v adorable in this episode, and the politics around how the mages family work(they have their own laws rather than society's, only one kid, the nature of how you need the long bloodline in its society, etc) was def interesting. Tho the grail war being every sixty years clearly isn't happening, unless Rin gets like frozen in time for 50 years. Zouken Matou is extremely creepy, and I hate the vibes he's giving off when talking about Sakura and the powerful mages she will give his family. Gross AF. El-Malloi is a name I recognize due to the anime going on this season... but the person in the visuals for that looks more like Waver. Also fuck El-Malloi, he's a total asshole. I'm really curious as to why the rules of the holy grail war require one of each class... How would who gets which class even be determined? What if two of the seven selected mages both get one for an assassin class Servant, and neither has another one they've found. Does a new master get put in or... I like learning the backstory on Kiritsugu, and I'm way more interested in him now, tho I would have liked to see some of it. I didn't expect Kiritsugu's wife to still be alive when the Grail War started tbh. The narration going back and forth between what Kiritsugu and Kirei think about each other is making it very clear they're going to be the two main people. I did like the cuts back and forth between their thoughts a lot. I guess El-Malloi will give us at least an idea of how the Grail handles one of its seven being unable to attend due to a lack of a summoning relic and/or only having the relic for a class that was already summoned, since it has the limit on no more than one of each class. "Once summoneed, [the servant] is just a tool for the master"... I can't help but suspect that Kiritsugu is going to be proven wrong over the course of the story on that. It's an obvious way for his character to grow now that it's been stated he thinks that. "Once summoneed, [the servant] is just a tool for the master"... It was a hell of a lot of exposition, and the double length really didn't help that feeling, but it had a strong ending point with the summons, and it def needed to be at that point at the end of the first episode so we could start getting actual fights next episode. I really expected to get some action in this one tho, considering what I know of Ufotable, and also that this is supposedly an action show in general lol. I would have appreciated seeing some of Kiritsugu's escapades as an assassin rather than just having them told to us. I am def intrigued to watch more. There's a few reasons I asked about Fate/Stay Night. You may have picked up on this, but starting with Fate/Zero vs Fate/Stay Night is somewhat of a charged topic with the fanbase, sort of like the Haruhi fanbase with broadcast vs chronological watch order on that show. (Full disclosure: I am on the side of starting with Fate/Stay Night and think that it does matter, although admittedly I wouldn't say it matters a lot.) In particular, I think the first episode is a lot more emotionally compelling to people who already played/watched Fate/Stay Night, but it seems like you liked the episode well enough anyway so I guess it's fine. Also this doesn't really matter towards the experience of watching Fate/Zero, but the stuff you learned about Sakura is one of the biggest plot twists/reveals if you start with Fate/Stay Night. Once again, very interesting editing and cuts. Very cool, and bringing in real life images. I actually really really enjoyed that whole segment with summoning the crab back and going through what she went through and what it meant. And makes the whole earlier showing off her body and being so blase about it work a little more, since it can tie into her whole trauma of being assaulted when she was younger. Overall, very nice and I really enjoyed how that played out. profDEADPOOL 09/19/19 12:54:31 AM #23:	Fate/Zero episode 2 I'm already loving Rider from his book stealing and declaration of why he's not a thief. Also I was right about what's the OP, woo. LMAO Waver is scared shitless of Rider and I love it. I'm really not sure if Waver is actually supposed to be an amazing mage or not, and I'm curious to see if he's actually that good and it is just the Circle Tower people being idiots or if he's just a cocky teen who is way overestimating his strength. My guess is it will be somewhere in the middle tho. It's very interesting that the show is using Iskandar rather than Alexander for Rider's name. Is that just how he's referred to in Japanese and does the dub change that? Kiritsugu's kid is not nearly as cute as Rin. I love that he admits to cheating being his only chance of winning tho, because that seems to be a sum of his life philosophy from his backstory we were told. Ah so we aren't even pretending Saber isn't Arthur, I was under the impression that's a mystery... But I guess that's only in Stay/Night? Wow I really don't care about Saber's backstory, and why the stories of her portray her as a man. WHERE ARE THE GODDAMN FIGHTS UFOTABLE. I've seen what you can do in Demon Slayer, give me that, and not this talking :v Are we just getting introduced to all the masters and servants now... Oh god it's a crazy serial killer... I wonder if he's the last? second to last? master... I think the demon he's summoning might be one of the last "heroic" spirits. Not sure whoever this dude fights with can really be considered heroic tho. Also it says a lot about how much the exposition in the first episode stuck for me that I don't even remember if we got the sixth master revealed already or not. Yep he's another one, so we prolly are just getting introduced to all the servants this episode. THE FUCK ARE CASTER'S EYES. I hate them. Okay yeah Caster is by no even remote stretch of the word, heroic. I hope to see both of these two die a horrible death. ... it's fucking Bluebeard are you fucking kidding me, that's the opposite of heroic. I wonder if it's actually Gilles or a fictional person. Gilles would be my guess since everyone else seems to be real people, even if they're modified. So I don't think we got the seventh, because we didn't get a reminder of who that was... but we also didn't get a reminder of the dude who had worms burrow into him so maybe we did. I wonder what Archer being one of "the three knight classes" could mean... guessing it's a different kind of specialty? Knight makes me suspect it's related to his fighting skill being better in some way. Assassin infiltrating the Tohsaka's house was really fucking cool visuals... and thank fuck there's an actual fight... tho it seems Assassin kinda just got destroyed. Gates of Babylon or w/e Archer's special skill is called looked even better than I expected. Honestly thank fuck this ended on a fight, because I am... not the biggest fan of the pacing thus far. It's still something I'm enjoing, but that was trending downward for most of this episode. I do wonder if the Saber convo worked less for me because I've not seen Stay/Night. I'm really not sure if Waver is actually supposed to be an amazing mage or not, and I'm curious to see if he's actually that good and it is just the Circle Tower people being idiots or if he's just a cocky teen who is way overestimating his strength. My guess is it will be somewhere in the middle tho. It's very interesting that the show is using Iskandar rather than Alexander for Rider's name. Is that just how he's referred to in Japanese and does the dub change that? Kiritsugu's kid is not nearly as cute as Rin. I love that he admits to cheating being his only chance of winning tho, because that seems to be a sum of his life philosophy from his backstory we were told. Ah so we aren't even pretending Saber isn't Arthur, I was under the impression that's a mystery... But I guess that's only in Stay/Night? Wow I really don't care about Saber's backstory, and why the stories of her portray her as a man. WHERE ARE THE GODDAMN FIGHTS UFOTABLE. I've seen what you can do in Demon Slayer, give me that, and not this talking :v Are we just getting introduced to all the masters and servants now... Oh god it's a crazy serial killer... I wonder if he's the last? second to last? master... I think the demon he's summoning might be one of the last "heroic" spirits. Not sure whoever this dude fights with can really be considered heroic tho. Also it says a lot about how much the exposition in the first episode stuck for me that I don't even remember if we got the sixth master revealed already or not. Yep he's another one, so we prolly are just getting introduced to all the servants this episode. THE FUCK ARE CASTER'S EYES. I hate them. Okay yeah Caster is by no even remote stretch of the word, heroic. I hope to see both of these two die a horrible death. ... it's fucking Bluebeard are you fucking kidding me, that's the opposite of heroic. I wonder if it's actually Gilles or a fictional person. Gilles would be my guess since everyone else seems to be real people, even if they're modified. So I don't think we got the seventh, because we didn't get a reminder of who that was... but we also didn't get a reminder of the dude who had worms burrow into him so maybe we did. I wonder what Archer being one of "the three knight classes" could mean... guessing it's a different kind of specialty? Knight makes me suspect it's related to his fighting skill being better in some way. Assassin infiltrating the Tohsaka's house was really fucking cool visuals... and thank fuck there's an actual fight... tho it seems Assassin kinda just got destroyed. Gates of Babylon or w/e Archer's special skill is called looked even better than I expected. Honestly thank fuck this ended on a fight, because I am... not the biggest fan of the pacing thus far. It's still something I'm enjoing, but that was trending downward for most of this episode. I do wonder if the Saber convo worked less for me because I've not seen Stay/Night. They have their weaknesses and blind spots yes, but none are actually idiots... at least not yet... And Rider going in here fits what I know of him, even tho it isn't the smartest thing. I get the feeling Lancer and asshole professor aren't that compatible in terms of personality, just based on this argument over not having killed Saber already. At least Saber is made at herself for not recognizing Lancer sooner. And she's smart enough to cover her sword cause otherwise her being Arthur is obvious. I wonder what Caster has planned here. Interesting way to bait the masters into attacking Caster. Gilgamesh ordering a t-shirt is the best. Saber and Kiritsugu arguing over what to do seems like it's going to present some rather interesting clashes. I love that he's intelligent enough to suspect the mediator. Caster's face continues to be wonderfully creepy. God that creepy sound when the tentacles broke out of the boy was just so good. That church orchestral music was so good. The way the music shifted when Lancer showed up to help her. And I love the way Lancer and Saber talk to each other. They're such tsunderes it's wonderful. I wonder if Iris is going to end up splitting from Kiritsugu because she seems to not being really agreeing with his philosophy of the ends justifying the means. Also huh I guess the orb was El-Melloi's, not Caster's. Speed up spell is an amazing concept. Kiritsugu continues to be the best.
