I think I skipped 7 but 8 was actually somewhat of a return to form. And 9 I would actually say is legitimately good. They got a new showrunner. It still does some TWD-y things every once in a while but overall its been up there with other serious dramas in terms of quality, at least ~halfway through the season.

Plus its flush with (minor spoilers) callbacks to the early seasons

I just finished season 9 last week. I was hesitant to watch it after all the terrible seasons but it definitely got better. I wont spoil it but theres an episode later that is just a huge holy shit moment.

They are, in a way. They direct the Walker hordes towards specific targets then hide among them so they can ambush their prey. It's pretty badass.

Skybound took over and completed the last two episodes. They were good and ended Clems storyline.

The only recompense is that Negan as a good guy is actually kind of likable

That was a great sending-off scene though, in fairness. Got to look like a badass and the death didnt really feel forced because I was expecting him to die after all the cool action but not like that.

i wouldnt miss beth so much if her death scene wasnt so dumb
it was a shock value death and felt forced rather then the natural conclusion of her storyline

plus everything she accomplished was undone before the season even ended as the guy she gave up her life to save ended up dying before the season finale

Yeah that was really atrocious. I actually kind of liked season 5 but that whole plotline, or at least the way it ended, really dragged it down.

Trust me man, they really got it right in season 9. They got rid of the showrunner that had been fucking it up. Its like a whole new show now. I actually found myself caring about the characters again.

Negan was too over-the-top as a villain for me. Im much more scared of Alpha/Beta.

And yeah this version of Negan is actually fun, I like him as a character now.

And 100% agreed with Hagen about season 9. Im glad there are a few people who stuck around. Judging by this topic most people gave up on the show as it continued its spiral down the toilet and missed out on one of the best seasons because of it.

What I like about Alpha is that from the characters' perspective, she's unpredictable and hard to read, in spite of having a ton of impulse control and being really calculating. My boss doesn't like her because he thinks "in a world like that, a woman wouldn't be able to lead a group like the whisperers" but that adds to her character in my opinion because clearly she is very effective at leading them and her character self-explains how she was able to put and keep it all together. It's realistic for the exact reasons that my boss thinks it's unrealistic >_>

I felt worse for Henry and Enid than for Tara because the person who plays the latter is a scientologist in real life >_>

Oh yeah Enid was also quite heartbreaking. I have to confess I was pretty toasted while I watched the last few episodes and forgot about her.

Yeah Alphas character is great, much more believable than schlocky Negan.

Major comic spoilers:
Tammys son brandon lets negan out of his cell in alexandria w the intent of having negan kill rick, but negan kills him for the same reason he killed spencer(being a wuss who couldnt himself). Negan then heads into the whisperers territory and is discovered by them. Negan sweet talks them into letting him in to prove himself and eventually decapitates alpha and brings her head back to alexandria
