Really? You haven't heard anything on the complaints of pipelines, Saudi arms dealing, reneging on electoral reform, or about SNC Lavalin? At most from the further left you get acceptance about weed legalization but Trudeau's far from the leftist dream. Trudeau wasn't even the first choice in 2015, but the NDP just cratered from the niqab debate and ABC voters had to shift their bets to the LPC norm.

although if you're in Alberta I guess your frame of reference for "canadian leftist" could be quite far off, which isn't a criticism mind you

yeah I covered this in the last topic but brownface is really only offensive to white people who don't understand the actual implications of racism to they act hyper offended by everything just to be safe. Or in this specific case it's "offensive" to right wing people who want to act superior to the left.

LUE has been closed for what, 15 years now?

Also this is just not true in the slightest. Those boards maybe kept users that stopped being interested in games as much, but they were -never- the draws of this site. No one randomly stumbled onto GFAQs for non-gaming reasons.

I did! I was looking for anime pictures and I randomly found some blog linking to a discussion on the Paranormal/Conspiracy board about government oppression and such. That's how I first got interested in the site.

(But I stayed because of gaming discussion on the Square-Enix and other RPG boards)

Reddit's format is great for answers to game questions, because the correct answer is generally bumped to the top instead of having to search through the topic for it. But yeah, it sucks for actual conversations.

Once again, Reddit is a VASTLY superior message board service and you have zero reason not to be there primarily.

I agree that GameFAQs isn't exactly an utopia. But fuck, man, Reddit is such a steaming pile nowadays. It could be enjoyable in its earlier days, but it's really become a dumpster fire.

The site's setup makes it especially prone to bots, astroturfing and vote manipulation. The moderators and admins are a different breed in terms of narcissism and power-tripping. And the vast majority of users, especially on the default/popular subs, come across as dumber than dog shit and proud of it. (There's also a weird self-loathing streak alongside the anti-intellectualism.) All of these problems ramped up considerably as Reddit become more mainstream, mainly from 2016 onward.

The common counterargument is to tailor the site how you see fit and filter out the rubbish subs. This helps, but honestly, I feel like many of Reddit's worst characteristics have seeped into even the smaller subreddits. I still get use out of the "strictly functional" subreddits like /r/vinyldeals, but there's no way I'd participate in the actual communities at this point.

Not shitting on your opinion specifically - more power to ya - but those are my two cents on Reddit itself.
