Meh. I used to think this way, but having a "nice car" ends up being cheaper in the long run. I've bought crap cars my whole life and I spend thousands fixing them. Not to mention the stress of them breaking down. I get not going too expensive, but having a good car matters.

we had to learn the hard way when our landlord decided not to cover our electric bill.
it's about 50$ a month (very reasonable).

There's actually a term for it in sociology, but it escapes me at the moment. "privately homeless" or something to that nature. Where, you appear wealthy but you actually are beyond your means.

One of my vehicles was $600 about 4 years ago. Other than maintenance, I put very little into it. I redid the bushings in the suspension and a few other non-maintenance things, though. I put on well over 100k KM in this vehicle (my work vehicle) and it is sitting at around 350k KM.

Nothing wrong with cheap vehicles if you can work on them yourself. Even if the engine or transmission go I can have one for $300 and put it in myself within a weekend.

Yeah, but for the rest of us who aren't part time mechanics, the stress isn't worth it.

I'm no where near a mechanic; I just know how to research stuff.
