Lmao what a terrible response.

The casters ban should have been revoked altogether and Blitzchung's ban is still to long.

As for the China part, its as if this jackass didnt notice everyone and their dog saw the Blizzard Weibo response to this situation.

Not good enough

Blizzard has done more than they had to. Understand this. Blizzard is a single part of a collective amount of businesses that operate in the brand "Activision Blizzard". The people at the top have a legal obligation to act in the best interests of the company's financial interests. China's gaming market happens to be the most lucrative PC gaming market in the world.

Despite anything that any Blizzard executive believes to be right regarding the Hong Kong crisis, they have no power to act on it without risking losing their careers. Blizzard's department is required to think globally in terms of geo-politics. Banning Blitzchung was the most they could do to please their Eastern Market, and now restoring his prize money is the most they can do to please the Western Market.

They could win nothing in this scenario, but don't grab your pitchforks and act like Blizzard somehow has the power to end the tyranny in China. Instead let the characters they create in games like Diablo, Warcraft, and Overwatch be infectious to the massive fanbase in China that maybe will inspire people to stand up against the regime or awast change their minds about what is right.

And what you fail to miss is that the issue of the statement came from Blizzard's china base. There wasn't a western executive telling them what to say. In fact, the statement that the Chinese Blizzard base made about "upholding our country's honor" is a very common thing to see/hear from public groups in China. After all, they have to protect their social credit score

Wait I just realized. The date of the apology is 12 October 2019, but Blizzard's headquarters is located in Irvine, California. It's still 11 October there. In fact, it's still 11 October in the entirety of the US is still. So this apology is not issued from the main headquarters?

I don't know how Blizzard-Activision is set up. Do they have a board of directors or something? Is there not someone who can "ask" for his resignation?

It took them a long time, because they had to measure their response exactly in the middle of not losing 12% of their revenue, which would get the CEO of Blizzard fired, and not losing x% of their revenue from bad will. This allows them to probably wait it out in the future and in 4-5 months, they'll probably be okay.

This is assuming they don't walk it back further. They still might depending on how people respond to their backtrack.

The ones that put up the Hong Kong sign during their match? No, and that's the hypocrisy of it. They're toying with Blizzard; ban them and Blizzard makes the situation worse, or leave them alone and prove that Blizzard has double standards. The latter happened, but they forfeited the rest of their tournament.

200 IQ move IMO.
