Welcome to Fate/Mythic Fragment, a CYOA with Mythic RPG and procedural generation going on under the hood and behind the scenes. If you're not familiar with Fate, that's fine- what you need to know going in is that it's a battle royal between teams of 2, except when it's not. Mages become Masters to summon powerful Servants from history and myth and legend. (or in this case, video games an' stuff) Servants are slotted into various Classes, and will be referred to as such until their identity is deduced. B8 will be taking the role of one of the Masters.

Gonna try to update about once a day. There will not be a strict time limit on voting or updating- just whenever I get to writing the next bit. This is intended as a kinda hybrid NaNoWriMo/NaGaDeMon project but I got excited so we're starting a bit early maybe! I have a long barrage of questions to start out but it'll be more like a normal CYOA once it gets rolling. Maybe.

Okay, your Servant has been decided! I'll keep you hanging on who they are until we start, but your other two choices (who probably now won't show up) would've been:
Kunai: Assassin Misao Makimachi (Rurouni Kenshin)

I like the system I have because I have guys I feel like will more or less work in this setting and with my level of familiarity, but a lot of them are going to be just a hair outside my comfort zone to write. More fun that way IMO!

Alone.....all alone in the darkness....will I be alone forever....?

The light of day brings you back to the present, whatever that is. You open your eyes, as your situation returns to you. You are, of course, Aurore Bourne, a Mage of no great repute but no little skill. You've never put down enough roots to really make a name for yourself, instead wandering the world in search of self-improvement. Now, your travels have led you to become in this Holy Grail War ritual, risking your life for ultimate power...or so it has been said. Perhaps you will lose your life in this Reality Marble, but what of it?

You have a fairly good idea of who you expect as your Servant, and with luck the modified invocation will make him into a strong Berserker. But when you open your eyes, you see a youthful girl in a Japanese school uniform. "You're finally here!" she practically shouts at you. Between the bright sunlight and this girl's overbearing presence, it's a bit hard to orientate yourself. She has long sleeves, but you think you can see Command Spells poking out from under then....a Master, then? She runs a few paces away, giving you a chance to glance around you.

You're outside, on a sunny day. The ground around you is covered in alternating squares of black and white, almost like a checkerboard. There's sparse foliage and rolling foothills. A few paces away, a man in shabby dark formalwear is picking himself up, same as you. That is most likely your Servant. Tall and slender, he may have been handsome once, but has long since become a monster. The Phantom of the Opera rises to his feet, ignoring you for the moment to assess the girl. The girl happily looks back at you. "You're the last one here, so now maybe something will happen! ....In fact, this should be fun right now."

You follow her gaze to a distant hill, which is currently being crested by a group of vaguely humanoid creatures. They have jet black skin, a variety of figures, colorful garb, and a random assortment of medieval weaponry. Before you can get a better look, you hear sounds behind you. A similar group is approaching from the opposite direction, except this one is a bit closer, and they have white skin. It looks like you might be in the middle of a battle soon. These guys don't look like major threats, but looks can be deceiving, and you're not sure how Berserker or this girl will react under pressure. Currently he seems to be under the impression that she is his master, which is causing her visible discomfort. You have a bit of time before they reach you...

A) Engage the white army

"Berserker." Phantom whips around to face you. "I am your Master. Answer to me." You raise your hand to show the Command Spells- you have three as expected, so hopefully you won't need to use one just to bring him to heel. Fortunately, he rushes to your side with almost ecstatic glee, shouting something about finding Christine together. You glance at the girl. "This seems dangerous. I won't stop you if you want to come with us."

She regards you with a look of disappointment, but shrugs and follows your lead a bit away from where the groups are likely to meet. "Are all of you going to be this boring?" she asks. "Even I could have handled that!....I think." You raise an eyebrow, but she continues. "I'm the Ruler of this Grail War, and you must be Aurore. You're the last team to arrive here, but I was hoping to see some action! Ah well, these guys should at least be a little entertaining." The two groups have almost converged, just a bit off from where you are now. Now that they're closer, you can tell that they are (rather rag-tag) soldiers of some sort, although too oddly shaped and colored to be strictly human. They are ignoring you for now, dead set on charging into battle.

"Master," pleads Phantom, "I think I could use some of these. Shall I harvest some parts?"

Well, from what you understand of your Servant, one of his greatest assets is his surprising penchant for living dolls. It won't be pretty, but might as well start now. The battle is joined, and it doesn't look like these guys have any great surprises up their sleeves. After taking a moment to monitor, you nod your approval. Phantom rushes forward, his hands morphing slightly into knife-like claws. The fighting soldiers don't initially notice him, but as he starts to slice his way through the battle, he quickly sows terror in his wake. Soon, about half of the soldiers on either side are fallen. The rest flee in terror, but Phantom is too busy harvesting body parts from the dead and wounded to pursue. These guys seem to have a hard, brittle skin. Phantom seems perfectly happy, so presumably this will still suit his purposes.

Ruler pales slightly at some of the gorier moments, but maintains her composure. As Phantom concludes his butchery, she asks what your plans are next. You don't see any signs of civilization in the immediate vicinity, so you're unlikely to run across any of your opponents out here. Maybe that suits you? But if you want to find people, you should probably start by figuring out where one of those armies came from. Or...

A) Head in the direction from whence the black soldiers came
B) Head in the direction from whence the white soldiers came
C) Establish a home base nearby so Phantom can get to work
D) Chase down those fleeing survivors
E) Head in a different direction

C) Establish a home base nearby so Phantom can get to work

There's a nearby cave that would work pretty well as a base of operations, and Phantom seems excited to have somewhere to tinker. You decide to work out of there for the time being, and give Phantom leave to do what he will with the corpses. Ruler gives you a quick rundown of basic information about the War. Most of it is just confirmation of what you knew or expected.(you're in a Reality Marble projected by SE.RA.PH; several Masters are here with their own Servants, each trying to kill off the rest and reach the Grail; you have three Command Spells; Ruler is the impartial overseer of the proceedings) She does give you some useful tidbits though- this world is called Skaia, and there are two forces at war, independently of the Grail War. The white creatures are from Prospit City, and the black ones are from New Derse. Those are the only real civilized areas nearby, and between them is a large battleground of contested land. That's where you are, and where Ruler's base of operations is as well.

Ruler has little interest in hanging around, so she departs, her duties done. You're left to ponder your next move.

A) Lay low as long as possible, focusing on gathering resources.
B) Lay low for a bit, but start scouting and gathering information.
C1) Lay low for a bit, then pack it up and go to Prospit City
C2) Lay low for a bit, then pack it up and go to New Derse.

(C1 and C2 both count as "C," I'll just use that to figure out which city you want to go to if it wins)
