I took the plunge and bought Shadowbringers while it was on sale. All the hype surrounding it was too much to bare and I've been feeling the itch to jump back into FFXIV even though I haven't gotten very far. I'm nearing the end of ARR at the moment. I haven't bought any game time yet, but it's only a matter of time.

I've been running around as a Monk so far, but I've had my eyes on Machinist and will probably switch to that when I get the chance. I like the thought of other classes, but since I usually play alone, I find DPS is easiest when running dungeons.

I'm now missing one triple triad card. Sitting at 281/282.

Gaius Van Baelsar is just impossible to get. I've had over 2000 wins on the guy that drops his card and I've run The Praetorium over 30 times.

I've had far too many people tell me similar things. It's frustrating. I've done three more Prae runs since that post. Nothing. At the end cutscene of one right now. We'll see how it goes. Lmao

My group beat Alexander Ultimate, after something like 90 hours of prog. It's a really good fight. Fate Calibration is the coolest mechanic in the game right now.

I'm biased because I play tank, but my absolute favorite moment in the fight is during Alex Prime. When he comes back from Inception Formation he starts casting his tankbuster, and as you're mitigating for that the chorus of his theme kicks in. It's extremely badass, in a very anime sort of way.

My fave is probably Thordan. A little before my time in terms of relevancy for the EX fight though...came like two patches late for it. If we're talking fights when they came out...I dunno, Susano? They kinda stopped doing true "primals" for fights.

Happy New Year, everyone.

i just did Titania (ShB spoiler) last night and had the worst tank I think I have ever seen in an MMO ever. This potato-IQ DRK managed to wipe us twice and nearly a third time by:
-Not tanking the add during the transition that has a tankbuster
-Provoking the boss to face the rest of the party right before the boss did a massive cleave and killed all the other DPS (I was thankfully lucky on which flank I had picked for my positionals)
-Using Tank LB3 after causing said cleave to happen as everyone was clamoring for Healers to LB3 and Ctrl+Z his idiocy
-Spinning the boss on occasion for no good reason

I am still amazed we managed to clear it, but the pity Echo of 20% pulled us through the third attempt. With a competent group, I think that boss could be super fun.

Domt worry, wiping to [redacted] is part of the ShB experience. It was really bad after ShB launched, and people would regularly just eat the 30 minute penalty if they got it in trials roulette.

Every class is an equal opportunity wiper for that one!

Yeah, I dont think there are any normal trials (thus far) packed to the brim with mechanics like that. And apparently you can fall off the edge during the transition, too?

you sure can. but yeah im not sure if its changed since release due to people being overgeared (everyone still had 390/400 stuff on launch; now most people are synced to max) but most wipes were due to lack of dps lol

Just starting the Heavensward questline. The end of the 2.55 story was truly amazing and horrifying.

I've finished ARR and have to be at least halfway through the in-between quest stuff. My oh my do they have you running all over the place and doing menial tasks. The thread it's running along has been interesting enough, at least, but I just feel like I'm doing busy work most of the time.

Heavensward hype, Shiekah! I love Ishgard. Its always what Ill consider home in-game.

Yeah, the glut of quests between ARR ending and Heavensward beginning are widely considered to be the biggest slog in the main story. The stretches between Heavensward and Stormblood, and Stormblood and Shadowbringers aren't nearly as bad.

Its almost too bad there are a lot of sporadic parts that are plot-crucial to build up to the ending. Otherwise I would recommend just powering through some parts.

My starting city was Uldah and I joined the Flames so that ending got real emotional.

2.X might as well be called One Hundred Goddamn Quests To Ishgard. It is by far the lowest point of the MSQ. The good news is, it's all uphill from there.

If anybody wants to tell me how close I am to Ishgard (since I really want to try Machinist), I'd appreciate it. The quest I just completed was Yugiri and the Domans just arrived to Revenant's Toll and now we have to go look into the Sahagin trying to summon Leviathan.

I'm hoping that's half, but I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't. I guess I also don't know how much of the gap quests take place in Ishgard which getting to is my main goal at the moment.

you have 65 (or more) quests left until you unlock ishgard. For reference, there are 100 quests from the end of ARR proper to the start of HW. You are in patch 2.2 (patches are 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, 2.5, and 2.55)

Hmm I see. It definitely feels like more since there seemed to be many quests thus far that were "go talk to this person in this random place " and then I get there and talk to them and Quest Complete or quests where I do some mundane action for an NPC.

Ah well. I'm confident I'll be able to power through. I'm also excited for more voice acting because having to fully focus on reading can be tiresome to me. It already seems like there's been a slight uptick in that and I can only imagine that they added more as the game became more established.

Speaking of voice acting, big heads-up before starting reaching Heavensward.

Pretty much the entire voice cast changes completely starting from Heavensward. Basically they went from American voice actors to British ones.

Obviously, not an issue if you're not playing with English voices.
