For now, no plans are in motion to stop password sharing altogether. Instead, ACE is working on implementing best practices" that will prevent account sharing. This includes limiting the number of devices that can simultaneously stream from a single account, something that a few streaming services already do.

So things are about to radically remain the way they already are

If they really do try to stop password sharing, they'll probably lose a lot of subscribers...

I don't use streaming services but based on netflix I thought it was like 3 devices at a time or something, doesn't seem unreasonable.

Well, its supposed to be 3 devices in the same household. But people share their accounts across the world. Heh.

Yeah. Like I share my accounts with my family. They are all in the same house, but Im not...

Ya, Netflix isn't worth it for just one log in, we set the price or we don't subscribe.

I think they think that by stopping sharing (or gimping it), it will probably double or triple the amount of accounts. But I think theyll end up with less. Some people only share because it helps get multiple streaming sites. Or because it makes it cheaper altogether. And stuff like that. They may lose customers...

Possibly.

They may lose some, but I do believe they will get a net gain. Or at the very least they drop some moochers eating up their bandwidth who were never going to pay no matter what.

It's difficult for me to see them taking a big loss.

Oh. Probably not a BG loss. There are always people who didnt share. And some who only shares within a household. But I do know people who only share to get access to another site. Or only split paying with another person because it makes getting a bunch of them cheap. I know I share with my family back home. Which each get a different one between like the 5 of us. Haha. And I know I have it on my phone, PS4, and Laptop. Hulu on my Switch, as well...

No they won't. It would be the same exact same situation as piracy. If they stopped the people from sharing the passwords then there's no evidence the people who were getting access for free would be buying the service anyway.

I wasn't going to go all in with the "NO" because I could understand what he was saying with "one person buying one service and another a different and them sharing"

But yea, if they don't have to run a server to stream movies to a bunch of people getting it for free it's a net gain even if the move doesn't translate into increased subscribers.

Except that they would lose a lot of subscribers who share because they split costs.

When reading the things when signing up for Netflix I think it just said 3 people watching at the same time. I don't remember anything about a set amount of devices allowed. Which is why I wonder what the big deal is about password sharing. I don't think any of the streaming services allow an infinite amount of people watching at the same time. And the people that do password share and don't pay for their own account are going to either still not subscribe or just go pirate the content instead.

I feel like doing this is only going to lose them some of their current paying customers. I could be wrong though.
