We have a FtM new kid working here, and one of my assistant managers keeps referring to him as she/her. At first he would kinda try to correct himself and say she but it is getting to the point where I seriously think he is doing it on purpose. He is a Trump supporter too so surprise surprise.

I want to say something but I try to keep a pretty low profile at work. Drama free and just do my job, but I feel obligated to help this person and he's been really nice to me (I trained him myself). I guess sometimes you have to do what you have to do >_<

Whenever someone's sentences contain "....she ------- SORRY HE---", you know they're just doing it to piss them off.

Shapiro does the same thing.

Ask yourself if it's more important to do the right thing or keep the job stress free. We can't make the decision for you.

Are you petty enough to contradict your boss whenever he gets shitty? Like when he's misgendering your co-worker, call out "Hey, can someone get Derek over here? I could really use his help right now!" Make it a game, whenever your boss uses she/her, try and replace it with a he/him as soon as possible.

That affirmation of your co-worker's gender identity, and show of solidarity in the face of your Trumpeter boss, will help him cope just that little bit better.

Some benefit of the doubt: I can totally see myself making this mistake in earnest. But I'm certainly no Trump supporter.

ooh its time for the if you say a damn thing to hr you are scum insects to come crawling out again

if you legitimately think hes doing it out of bad faith, tc, you should say something. marginalized people need other folks looking out for them in the workplace. it would be infinitely safer for you to say something than for him to.

This. The "Just keep your head down" suggestions are frankly disappointing. Ignoring issues allow them to fester, and if you won't stand up for others then what if you suffer at the hands of the same dickish manager? Should everyone else just ignore it, or would you want someone in your corner?

Yeah, you definitely should say something. Saying something to your boss won't be helpful, of course: if they're enough of a dick to keep misgendering some one, calling them out isn't going to do anything. Bring the matter up with a superior. If you feel intimidated, you could even try to do so anonymously.

Yeah, I don't agree with the "keep your head down" comments, sorry. Most workplaces even encourage that if you see something in ethics that you don't agree with, to bring it up to a Manager or HR.

This. It's usually best not to get involved in arguments between coworkers. Take a side and you may have to work with the person you sided against on some project. Just let them work it out on their own.

Depending on the dynamics at work, you could also confront the boss directly, but I don't know your environment or situation. Even if he's generally an asshole otherwise, I'd want to be certain before I pulled the trigger.

Actually this is a better idea than getting involved face-to-face, but your goal is still to remain anonymous. There has to be some sort of "whistleblower hotline" you can call. Do it from some anonymous number when you aren't at work so your boss has no way of tracking it back to you.

You can tell HR to keep it anonymous. They'll investigate your concerns. And if the boss finds out somehow, workplace retaliation would be against policy anyway.

The trans co worker was literally just complaining about it to me yesterday, and my boss literally several times has misgendered him right to his face, like literally standing right next to him.

The thing is I'm getting my Masters in a few months and I'm planning on leaving this job (its just a crappy retail job I do on the side to support myself while finishing up grad school) so the thing is I'm trying to keep my work life as mellow and drama free as I can while I'm still here. I am literally MONTHS away from putting in my two weeks and I have jobs I'm lining up in the mean time. I also have relatives that would let me live with them while I look for other jobs so either way I am getting the hell out of here relatively soon. That being said I'm literally Politics and I feel like I should be doing something to help the cause.

Yeah man, it would be really rough if you had to speak with HR a couple of times.

Meanwhile your coworker is being demeaned on a daily basis and living with constant harassment, but just think about how difficult YOUR life would be. Ah, what a shame. Sounds like a true burden YOU have to bear. Guess it just sucks to be your coworker, right? I mean, the problems you'd have to face would just be so, so much worse though, you know? Like, uh, doing the right thing, am I right? What a burden.

You fucking know what you need to do. Grow a spine and stop just thinking about what's comfortable for YOU.

Personally, I'd talk to the manager before escalating it. Nothing accusatory or hostile, just look man, you keep calling him her and it's really bothering him, just bringing it to your attention in case you were unaware. I don't know your relationship with the manager, though, so that might not work.

The thing is its just an assistant manager who is saying this. The general manager is actually a lesbian so I think if I talked to her about it she might be able to do something. I just need to be there a day she is there and he isn't

Oh it's a minimum wage job? Lmao then yes, your coworker needs to address this himself. What's the worst they can do to him? Fire him? LMAO.

On the other hand, it being a menial job makes it easier for you to get involved, since you don't need that job anyways. Do what you wanna do TC.

It's not minimum wage lol. I won't say how much I make but it's a decent wage for where I live. I also get a special name tag and get paid extra to train people. Not saying it isn't a shit job but at least I'm not constantly broke haha.

I don't know we are having quarterly meetings pretty soon where we have one on one's with a manager to bring up concerns, I think I'll just slyly mention it then.
