Your current name is pretentious, but I don't mind pretentious personally. It's just the almost tongue-twister nature of the embedded pun that makes it feel more like a title of a story rather than a series title to me. I like it a lot! But I'm also just one vote.

Came up with a brand new pitch where everything fits and is great and sets up the lore and deep mystery element and.... it's 4,400 characters. Which is fully 1,200 more than my previous monstrous pitch.

Time to start heavily abbreviating and condensing I guess... no more new pitch ideas after this, just going to recycle.

Guys, this is a reminder that your pitch is for your entire concept and not single issues. I'm not sure where people are getting it into their heads that you need to do issue-by-issue accounts of your series, with a new one each week, but that is NOT the contest. Your pitch is always being judged as an opening concept. This was never and has never been designed to be that way, and the rules never stated anything remotely similar to this.

I woke up later than I wanted and have been lazy at deciding Fight since it seems it doesn't even matter for me anyway. I gave one argument and no one read it anyway so I just lose every fight regardless. Waste of my time to pick lineups when all I can do is work on pitch when I find a real fatal flaw mine has.

Like, at this point I'm trying to think of a way a second attempt would work better. Something that works more like when you had a topic where you were making individual issues and we "bid" on them to try and keep the issues going, but with our pitched teams. And each week we'd gain the ability to maybe kill a character off and grab a free agent, or trade based on your critiques on what characters would be prime grabs for our team building/who doesn't work.

Of course, other participants/readers could pitch the same ideas of it. Like argue how X character doesn't work on Y person's team, but would be magnificent on B person's team.

So, as an external analyst:

There's not enough week-to-week change in the project as-is to keep people interested. The reason mercs was able to keep people's attention (for the most part) was because your team was constantly iterating and changing week-on-week.

Here, there is substantially less to do every week. If you're happy with your team... you're basically done and that means you're not thinking about the project and therefore not sending a roster in.

...I kinda of like the thought of the first week being the pitch itself, and future weeks potentially being ideas for how the story goes, either by arc or by issue. Potential for weaker pitches to pick up steam (or GOG Galaxy, depending on preference) as the team-maker gets a better handle on how they think it'd go.

I think I might rework this concept, but I definitely have no interest in trying to run a contest where the pitch is not really a pitch anymore.

Honestly you could probably just have us do +8, +7, +6, +5 etc style votes with 10v10 matches and finalized pitches if you just wanna give this a sense of resolution without dragging it through 4 more topic sets.

Thoughts on the project thus far

The pitch idea was great fun
The fight idea seemed tacked on and meaningless
Kinda sucked that we couldn't pick up free agents for what this was-- no matter how many rewrites you give a character's role I think some people just see a dude's inclusion in a team as a red flag and will ding you for it every time and if no one is interested in taking your guy then you sort of just eat that penalty

Were we ever to do something similar I'd prefer a slightly more in depth pitch voting and pitch formulation.

I like the idea of pitch categories to vote on as well as voting on strength of pitch. Things like marketability, overall team strength, how much the team composition leads itself to diversity in plots, etc. Little things that contribute to a pitch but don't necessarily dictate which pitch you personally like more.

I also like the idea of maybe giving roles to people in your team-- leader, major (central to the theme), minor (basically team filler-- may have character arcs for them sometimes but not necessarily going to be a big deal in most issues), supporting character (a character who is necessary to the plot and/or team formation but isn't necessarily considered a central team member for battles and such), etc. This would allow you to give some more depth to your team structure without bogging your pitch down with it. For instance if you had a benefactor that funded the team, they might be listed as a supporting character. It also lets you make your team artificially smaller by relegating people you have no particular vision for to minor/supporting roles. I dunno.

Not sure exactly how to structure all this and I'm not sure you even ever want to do it again but yeah just sorta rambling.

Yeah, I don't know what I'll do. I think given that almost half of people didn't respond, the desire for this particular project has clearly waned. I thought the drafting portion was a lot of fun, I just need to figure out something for post-draft. But the draft itself was clearly a success.

What I'm considering, for a different version of this, is to leave the draft portion exactly as is. Cut the fight portion, and turn the pitch portion into a wild west-style post-whatever-you-want situation. And then everyone ranks two divisions, and the winners of the two divisions get voted on.

I think this would work much better, keep the excitement level there, and allow us to have more drafts with more variety more often.

EDIT: I think some of this is just the growing pains of figuring out what works and what doesn't, and while I'm bummed this variation fell apart, I think a different version would work much better.

Getting there. I'm on seven meds and had my first PT two days ago, but I'm improving faster than any of the nurses thought I could.

Edit: also, most of the meds are 0 refills, so maybe a month, maybe less

I obviously liked the fight portion the first time arounfd because it was easier to pick the best abilities, but trying to make a more cohesive team is probably several times more interesting.
