Literally over an hour with a friend and not a single successful catch. Its literally easier to just raid scum the exclusives and trade them to your friends than it is for them to actually catch it. My Machamp is lv100 so I shouldnt be having level issues or some other dumb excuse. The online in this is trash tier

What type of Ball are you using?

All of them. Dusk, Repeat (Ive caught normal Lapras before), Nest, Ultra, the water specific one, etc. No matter which ball I threw it didnt seem to matter. I got 3 instant breaks in a row and it was rare for me to even get 2-3 ticks. I must have used 2 dozen balls total and not a single one caught it.

You should stop swapping around and stick the ones with the best rates. Only use Repeat or Net Balls, whichever design you like better. Using other types of Pokeballs just makes this even worse.

I used Repeat about 8 times in a row and it still failed. Its just awful how low the catch rates of these are if you arent the Host. Whoever was in charge of all the Online for this should never be allowed to work in anything online gameplay related ever again

Even so, don't given in to superstition. If you are throwing an Ultra Ball, you are throwing the battle away.

I really want to know what fucking idiot at GameFreak came up with this. I couldnt even literally imagine anybody trying to do Raids the legit way. They have stupidly low encounter rates and even dumber catch rates for anyone who isnt Hosting the raid. Theyre boring beyond belief if you have to sit through them multiple times to even catch a single Pokmon too. Its honestly so terrible Id micropay to just be handed the G-max Pokemon if they ever found a way to keep people from Raid scumming

What is the benefit of catching raid pokemon? Hidden abilities?

Gigantamax Pokemon are exclusive to Raids. Theyre like a special Giant version of certain Pokmon thats different from Dynamaxing which nearly any Pokmon can do. The kicker is naturally encountering them might as well be like walking outside and having a billion dollars fall into your lap and then they have single digit catch rates too

They can have several perfect IVs and I think HAs too if Im not mistaken

So are they giant all the time? Or they the only ones who become giant formed when dynamaxed?

They only become Giant when Dynamaxed. Basically you only see their Giant form in Raids and whatever other few fights let you Dynamax. It might as well be like shiny hunting, but for Giants

But hey man, you get EXP candies for beating the raids! That makes up for these bullshit catch rates, right? /s

Yeah, fuck whoever thought these Gmax catch rates were a good idea. I actually like raids for regular Pokemon, but Gmax hunting lost its luster very quickly when I realized how badly Game Freak... Game Freak'd it up. When people reminisce on Gen 8, this will be an oft-mentioned sore point, and for good reason.

The online alone makes me feel like the game still needed another 6-12 months of development. Stamps dont work how theyre supposed to unless youre actively seeking something (probably a trainer card which nobody wants so you dont get interrupted waiting for the 5s window to get in on a G-max Raid youll fail to catch anyways 99% of the time), G-max dens are incredibly limited in location and are RNG on top of RNG to even get them to appear and then the catch rates are trash on top of it. Date changing is the only thing making any of this slightly less tedious. I couldnt even imagine trying to catch these without it and Id bet an overwhelming majority of the players are abusing it to save themselves the hassle and time it would otherwise take

Aren't most of the Gmax forms worse anyway, since the secondary effects from the normal max moves are better?

Possibly, but as a collector of course youd want to collect them anyways especially because your Pokdex doesnt appear to work properly with them. Only some of the G-max Pokemon I saw in the plot were given a page in my Pokdex for whatever reason. Its like it threw darts at which ones it wanted to give you. You dont need them for completion, but its still dumb how all the ones youre forced to see dont show up in your Pokdex

I'm in no rush, so if I don't happen upon certain ones, I'll just wait for the events that make them more common. I don't see any real point in driving myself crazy trying to rush through.

Im not exactly in a rush, but at the same time I dont care to wait X months before GameFreak gets off its ass and makes 1 of the 20~ G-max Pokemon more common. Given how terrible they are with online I wouldnt be surprised if it takes an entire year before one of them becomes a common raid

I'm not in a crazy hurry to catch them all and put myself through that turmoil, lol. I'm fine with waiting it out and catching them as Game Freak makes them more readily available. I've caught all the easy ones so far, some of them more than once. Outside of that I've only managed to make it into a Gmax Hatterene raid, and naturally didn't catch it on my first try.

Looking forward to the Gmax Melmetal raid, lol. I just wonder if Meltan will be put into raids at the same time. The events have so far made the pre-evolutions more common in 1-2* raids, so I hope they do the same with Meltan.

Do we know if we can breed Melmetal to get Meltan? Or is it another Naganadel case?

Meltan and Melmetal are not capable of breeding, so you can't get more Meltan that way. Meltan also has no possible evolution method in Sword/Shield, as it can only evolve in Pokemon Go.

So the only way Meltan can be obtained in this game is through a Mystery Gift distribution or being made available through raids. They'll probably make it available through raids in the future.

Yeah either you have a buttload of friends who are always hosting Gmaxes (which would also likely be exploited) or you do the exploit.

There IS no other option. Well you could play the game for like 5 years and maybe get lucky then lol

My only guess is the groundwork for what's currently happening was supposed to be laid out while we would've been doing the power plant and Dynamax outbreak stuff, but that was all cut for time or something, and the game still needed a climax of some sort so they just kept the ending in and there was just literally no way to salvage it while making any sense.

Basically they cut a whole bunch of in-between stuff and we were left with just the boss rooms because the development time was basically cut in half from the usual.

It was totally rushed and out of place
It's like they did it just because a Pokemon game MUST have a villain and no other reason
The timing sucked too, it was right before a fight they hyped since the very beginning of the game

At the time too there was no reason for our character to care about any of this or be bothered that Rose and Leon were even having a meeting. There was literally no reasoning for our characters to be like WE GOTTA GO THERE AND GET LEON OUTTA THAT MEETING!

To be fair, doesn't Hop say something like "Leon never flakes out like this" and so the whole point of trying to go to the tower is that Hop's worried, and then Oleana being like "No you can't go there not stfu" just makes it "Oh now we really gotta go?

Like, it's dumb, but the initial reasoning makes sense. Just not... the rest.

I'm pretty sure Leon was only sent to capture the legendary because Rose lost control of it. We don't even foil anything. Rose foiled himself.
