Honestly I never beat chapter 9 either, like 2/3 of the way through I just turned on assist mode to see the ending

Chapter 8 has almost nothing in the way of story. Chapter 9 does have a story but it's entirely extra and not really related to the 1-7 plot.

I honestly didn't find the main game difficult at all. Perhaps recently beating Super Meat Boy through the dark ending has battle hardened me.

Haha, weirdly I was thinking that this was finally scratching the Super Meat Boy itch. The B-Sides definitely have the same level of difficulty as some of the dark world levels.

The main game is definitely not meant to be very difficult. I thought some parts of chapter 7 got pretty hard though. Enough to make it feel like a climax at least. The bonus levels get exponentially harder for sure. Not necessarily in a fun way though.

Yeah, the first few B-sides are rough. I'd say 2B is probably the easiest? I remember 5B being somewhat manageable as well (in addition to having the best theme in the game). The rest are tough as nails.

On Chapter 9 - stopping 2/3 into Chapter 9 is a bit of a shame because the middle part of the Chapter is definitely the hardest section of the level IMO. The difficulty scales down noticeably in the last 25% or so (though the final room can be a pain, admittedly).

Chapter 9 is still consistently harder than anything else in the game, and stays punitively harsh for longer than anything else, though a few individual rooms in some of the other levels can rival it. It's more a test of persistence and grit.

Chapter 8 was fun.

Just got past the five locks part of chapter 9. Chapter 9 feels a lot more puzzley in terms of figuring out how the mechanics work and can be used to get past certain parts.

Question-- when it stops me for not having 15 hearts, is there a save point there? I assume there is, but wanted to make sure I don't have to repeat stuff needlessly

agreed, one of the first things i thought about chapter 9 was "this feels more like every room is a puzzle"

but i also agree with the last segment scaling the difficulty down, and i actually think this is a brilliant design decision - after working your way through some of the toughest rooms in the game, you are given the reward of one final stretch where you get to fly through everything and feel great doing it. in fact, the final room is sort of designed in the same way - the beginning section is hard, but once you get to the vertical part it eases up, and you likely won't die more than a couple of times in the final segment

Got to the 15 heart gate. The last screen before that point definitely took me many tries. Now at 5000+ deaths.

Now to get the remaining 7 hearts.

I'd like to beat chapter 9 for real at some point but even if I do finish all the C-Sides I don't have high hopes, it's such a long level

I recently started Celeste and have been definitely into it.

I don't understand the B-side (second one?) where real early on the bird tells you forward-dash. I can get to the bird and stand, but I don't get the angle it takes to go up and out of that room successfully.

Bird's telling you that you can jump right when you leave the space block to go further, which lets you reach the second one with your dash

Yeah if you're not having fun with the difficulty you'll only get frustrated forcing yourself. You already beat the game, all the rest is just for folks who crave that kind of stuff. (Like me lol)

I agree. Same with chapter 8.

I get that people liked the challenge, but Super Meat Boy was also like this and I beat all of those. Maybe it's because you didn't have to play every single level to progress whereas Celeste b-sides force you down a more linear path.

Anyway, solid 8-ish game. Would recommend.

Chapter 8 B-Side was rough.

Beat the first C-Side in about 279 deaths. Now at 8292 total.

Should I try to beat the Chapter 9 part 2 first or should I try to do all of the C-Sides?

The Chapter 8 C-side took me about 2 hours, the last screen of Chapter 9 was about the same amount of time I think.

Finally got around to continuing. Beat Chapter 2 C-Side, which was surprisingly easy.

Really not a fan of the long sections that are on the last parts of these C-Sides...does Chapter 9 have a lot of those? I'm really tempted to just do the second half of Chapter 9 instead of doing all the C-Sides.

the last screen of chapter 9 is on another level when it comes to length. the rest doesn't approach the nastiness of the C sides, though you'll probably get stuck in a couple of parts. it is really hard though overall.

All of the extra content was pretty underwhelming from an incentive perspective tbqh. I think it's definitely more about the gratification from knowing you beat it than anything else

3C, 7C, and 8C are the worst C sides. Level 9 is about on the same level. Here were my deaths and playtimes before level 9 came out
