Rules:

1) Players are divided into two divisions. Each round, players will face one opponent in two categories. These categories are: "Fight" and "Pitch".
2) "Fight" matches should be voted on with the following criteria: "Who would win in a fight?"
-Characters are expected to have the abilities (and limitations) from their last living appearance.
-All fights will take place on a habitable uncolonized moon of Saturn where there is a temperate climate, water, air, flora, fauna, etc.
-Teams are kept in an isolated, impenetrable chamber prior to the beginning of conflict and are unaware of their opponents until the fight begins.
-The only directive supplied to these teams is that they must defeat their opponents. If the do not attempt to do so, Earth will be destroyed.
-Voters should consider the potential conflicts within teams as a factor (can characters with negative relationships work together), as well as the intelligence of the characters, resourcefulness, etc.
3) "Pitch" matches should be voted on with the following criteria: "Which pitch would make a better series?"
-All pitches must feature rosters in the Marvel Universe (616). No alternate realities or future skips, etc. It must take place alongside the rest of Marvel continuity.
-Voters should consider team name, roster, cohesiveness, quality of concept, and whether the team fits with the concept, among any other criteria they wish to consider.
-Pitches are all a voter must consider; they should cover the entire series.
-Voters should NOT consider whether a dead character is suddenly alive in this pitch. Voters SHOULD consider other aspects of team status; if characters would make sense working together, if characters have abilities that are mutually exclusive, etc.
-Pitches should be one paragraph (No more than two).
-Players can rewrite/rework their pitches between each round.
4) Anyone who is not involved in a specific match can vote for either team in either category. The player with the most votes in one of the categories will get a win in said category.
5) After each player has faced seven opponents, the players with the best "Fight" records in each division will face off and the players with the best "Pitch" records will face off.
6) Rosters each week will be made up ONLY of 6 members of the team. Every character must be active against at least three distinct opponents. Every character must also be inactive against at least three distinct opponents.
9) Between rounds, players may make one-for-one trades with any other player.
10) Rosters must always house exactly ten members.
11) You have 72 hours to vote.

NBIceman vs. Scare

X-Trinsic
When an uncharacteristically humble Namor, reeling from the consequences of his war with the surface world, makes a pilgrimage to the newly legitimized Krakoa as a mutant-Atlantean ambassador seeking good-faith inroads of allyship between two long-persecuted peoples, the Quiet Council is understandably wary. Their compromise to his request for manpower in helping to get Atlantis back on its feet is to send him a team made up of former enemies, problem children, others who volunteer for personal reasons, and one or two strays that, frankly, no one really wants around. Their further contingencies are that Namor be amenable to the occasional sensitive side job that would otherwise be unbecoming for a respectable country to handle should such occasions arise (literal WET-works, in this case), and that their involvement with each other be kept secret until such time that he's no longer persona non grata to many.

Namor agrees, even promising to personally subdue any team member that gets out of hand. That's all what he wanted anyway, because as it happens, the Council's suspicion may not have been misplaced. The world believes the Sub-Mariner a war criminal now, but as far as he's concerned, the true blame for his actions lies squarely on the shoulders of Charles Xavier, a man unfit to be a leader of mutantkind in any capacity. And now that Namor's been provided with an unstable and unpredictable combination of malcontents, schemers, and impressionable young minds, not to mention the questionably sane Spiral who he somehow recruited all on his own, there may come a day when the fledgling nation of Krakoa discovers whether the devil they know is truly preferable to the one they don't.

Fight Lineup:
Aurora
Frenzy
Hellion
Namor
Primal
Spiral

New eXperiments

Building on my previous week's pitch, we would find out that Stryker was connected at some point to these projects, but that he is dead and a new person has stepped in to take them off the page and into process. One of the main aspects I would like to see focused on would be having to deal with clones who have been instilled into teams that had already been formed, but with the counterparts of the New eXperiments in leadership roles. Having to address and approach each one would have to be done in its own way. The clones I picture in these roles would be Anole, Captain UK, Karma, and Quicksilver being the predominant one that would be a challenge. (Full team: Wolverine, Deadpool, Quicksilver, Polaris, Karma, Puck, Anole, Warlock, Box, Captain UK)

Lopen vs. MegamanX

RetroaXtive
Bishop arrives from the DARK FUTURE, in an attempt to disband the X-Men, as all he knows coming in is that they were responsible for the assassination of Senator Kelly, which snowballed into the eradication of mutantkind. After arriving, he recruits the mercenary Domino. He tells her of his story in order to justify an assassination mission on the leadership roles of the X-Men and she believes him. Bishop and Domino knock Professor Xavier and Jean Grey comatose during a battle between the X-Men and Magneto's brotherhood, but Bishop's time travel device is damaged in the battle, keeping him in the past. Magneto attempts to make Bishop an ally after the battle, and realizes he really is from the future due to describing a plot by Magneto and Mystique to frame the X-Men that he could not have known about.

Beast is injured and captured by Magneto, and as a prisoner takes an advisory role, giving Bishop insight into how the X-Men of today work as well as some input on possible courses of action to fix the future. Doctor Nemesis, with his specialization in time travel, is recruited to try and repair/replicate Bishop's Time Travel device. Deathlok Prime is brought in to help decide optimal courses of action with his probability calculator. Others are mostly muscle chosen by Magneto, though Whedon is brought in specifically as a lawyer. The dynamic is Bishop and Magneto are both trying to 'fix' the future but with Magneto (and Mystique, who can screw with projected future events really well with shapeshifting and mere plans) trying to subtly manipulate things into a heavier skew towards mutants/their own gains, which in turn causes strange interactions with Domino in particular due to her luck ability and being more in line with Bishop's goals. A hot blooded X-Men team without the cooler heads of Xavier, Jean, and Beast to keep them in check, meanwhile, act as the primary antagonists. Can Bishop determine Magneto's true motivations and overcome them, or perhaps even find a way to work with Magneto without any underlying deception to create an even better future for mutants and humans alike? Time will tell.

Fight Lineup:
Magneto
Bishop
Domino
Mystique
Beast
Evangeline Whedon

Generation X: The Xth Generation
Warren Worthington III has decided to use some of his resources reviving the formerly-defunct and often troubled Massachusetts Academy. It had long been a splinter school for training new mutants following the methods of instructors who in ways differed with the vision Xavier and Cyclops had for the X-Men, a tradition Archangel intends to continue and revive. In order to make the new Academy a success, he has invited former villain Havok whose unique perspective on the world helps to serve to counterpoint the idealistic Archangel and provide a well-rounded education - though more often than not this leads to a layer or two of angst illustrating the conflict between cynicism and idealism that defines Generation X. Jubilee - as an alumnus of the original Generation X - is brought in to serve as a new Teacher - her unique blend of optimism for the future and belief in the future of mutantkind help to remind Havok and Archangel of why this academy is so important. Jubilee is also a recent adoptive parent and struggling to learn her role as both parent and teacher defines her struggle in this book. She also is key in managing mercurial mood swings of Archangel and the latent amoral streak in Havok to keep the Academy running!

The book is defined by the 7 coming of age stories for each of the principal students + Jubilee as they grow as people, particularly focusing on Mercury and Leech while new mysteries surrounding Hollow's past, the St. Croix twins present and of course the future of mutantkind. Expect of course to see your standard X-Men romantic angst, this time featuring the unlikely pairing of Leech and Nicole St. Croix, a troublesome crush by Paige on Havok and the deep aromantic friendship of Hollow and Mercury clashing with world shaking dangers challenge the beliefs and ideals of our heroes. Shark Girl brings an element of chaos to proceedings but also does the best job of fitting in with everyone as she share Leechs Grotesque forme and can empathize with the struggles that are unique to being a teenage girl without a feminine form like Mercury. She is also a source of levity for the otherwise fairly serious team. The big money draws of the book are Archangel, Havok and Jubilee, and the book intends to make stars out of Leech and Mercury.

A newly reopened school calls for a new class of students enrolling in the academy as well. Former ward of the academy Leech is introduced to readers first - given that he has few other places he can fit in with his grotesque appearances, he chooses Massachusetts Academy to try and have some semblance of a normal teenage life away from the madness of Xaviers. Joining him is a pair who were technically former students but never as themselves - Nicole and Claudette St. Croix - who bring with them the St. Croix fortune and the St. Croix troubles! Unexpectedly joining them is the mysterious and quiet Hollow who once housed the twins as a body but is now sentient in her own right. The dark St. Croix history and still unsolved origins of Hollow form much of the basis for the series early drama. Mercury joins the school perhaps even less sure of herself, her beliefs, and her place in the world than any of the others, seeking the guidance of her prestigious instructors and trying to find somewhere to fit in. Mercury and Hollow soon find themselves bonding as such polar opposites - one a diamond hard form without a strong connection to humanity and her a malleable liquid who could so easily be a normal girl if her powers were less total than they are leading to not just opening up the secrets of her origin, but genuine friendship which neither has much experience with. Former Student Husk serves as one of our focal points of the series. She is older than most of the other students and struggles somewhat to adapt to having Jubilee as a superior when they were once peers. Husk in particular is struggling to find her true self, whilst mired in the dramas of her imperfect teachers and with feeling the need to "catch up" to Jubilee and her other former peers.

X-Mortis
If Fantomex has returned from the Astral Plane, that could only mean one thing: danger is on the horizon. Branded with a mysterious symbol, Fantomex discovers other mutants also share the same markings as he. Spurred to Krakoa by news of mutant transformations suddenly going haywire, Fantomex gets in contact with Banshee who had been looking in to the markings on his own, but has a huge problem: he's undergoing a horrifying transformation himself! Glob Herman & Marrow, marked mutants bored from the recent mundanities of life on Krakoa, are eager to step in and help with the investigation, but the long-retired couple of Wicked & Freakshow want little part of what Fantomex is spewing. Elsewhere, Dust is still recovering from her recent brush with Blackheart and has seen enough demonic activity to last a life time! But, as the threat of the Shadow King begins to reemerge & paranormal events start occurring world-wide, Fantomex goads the marked mutants into action with a little assistance from the guiding hands of experienced mentor Strong Guy and a more matured Broo, who promises to help fix the problem. Why did the markings target them? Is there something more sinister than even the Shadow King lurking just beyond their vision? And could a certain reptilian devil really be the key to putting an end to all this madness? In this story that's part Hellblazer and part Cronenberg, X-MORTIS examines the realities of living with physical mutations, being comfortable with your body image, and the struggles of keeping your promise to be a better person and become a hero worth remembering.

Fight Lineup:
Banshee
Wicked
Glob Herman
Devil Dinosaur
Marrow
Broo

X-Sentinels
Moira lived through a future that included mutants being nearly annihilated by sentinels, including Nimrod. Moira was killed by Nimrod in this future because she was hiding mutants in an attempt to save them (not knowing she was a mutant). Moira uses this information to form a team that has the mission to protect mutant existence and oppose the creation of the sentinels.

Scare's comic issue pitch is unfortunately too much of a detriment to ignore.

I'll admit I was ready to hate MMX's new pitch after having a decently strong one in the prior rounds, but god damn Mephisto got me. I still preferred the focus on Madrox in the prior rounds, but he still seems pretty prominent here at least. RetroaXtive still has a Beast problem.

Eddv didn't even need the other paragraph to win this round. Brevity can be great, but I'd still like to found out more behind Mega's ideas.

I figured giving him the role he was born to play, detective, would be a lot better than Dark Beasts patsy every issue. I'm glad the Mephisto hook was liked, easily the oddest thing that ever happened to Magma (her going on a date with Mephisto)

Pitch voting:
X-Trinsic vs New Xperiments
I do really enjoy the revised pitch from Iceman. Its sort of a broken Aesop on the traditional X Men set up and it has an awful lot of potential. I think it could be strengthened if it could further flesh out the roles of the other team members because as of now I am a little fuzzy on what this book looks like on the Page.

Ive got no fucking idea what's supposed to be happening in this New experiments book at this point.

Iceman

RetroaXtive vs Otherworld X

These are both kinda feeling like What If? Scenarios that don't build on heavy continuity.

I'll be honest Retroaxtive has a lot of dead weight character wise but the core Magneto-Bishop-Domino dynamic is really what you come for.

Otherworld meanwhile is definitely very fun but it feels like the most exciting parts of his pitch have no links to his actual team and the way he sells it he accidentally makes his own team out to be kinda losers?

Lopen gets the nod here his more cohesive idea and for the idea of Domino/Bishop as a comic duo.

X-Mortis/Snake Shad really needs to flesh things out

Fight votes:
Iceman

Pitches:

Iceman
Eddv
Snake

Mostly by default Mana and Shad are far too barebones for me to get much a feel of anything they're doing beyond teams and they're against good coherent pitches. Meanwhile I can no longer follow Scare's pitch, though I think I liked Iceman's regardless.

Gotta say, I'm a little surprised I'm behind in the fight voting.

- Namor is the most powerful individual fighter on either side, and that's without even taking into account that he currently has Hydro-Man's powers to play around with so that he doesn't even have to just rely on his brute force.
- Hellion is a telekinetic flirting with Omega-level abilities who fairly recently was able to absolutely curbstomp Omega Sentinel, who's pretty easily stronger than at least half of the eXperiments offering.
- Aurora is way, way faster than anyone on the opposing side, including Quicksilver, who therefore doesn't really have much else to offer.
- Namor and Primal both have that telepathy resistance that makes Karma a lot less useful.
- Spiral can do pretty much whatever's required at any given time. Scare's team really doesn't have a good way to deal with a lot of her spellcasting, whether that be teleporting or eliminating some of the general superhuman powers on that side, etc., and she's definitely a good enough hand-to-hand fighter that she can also contribute there if and when it becomes necessary.

All said, eXperiments don't have the crowd control to deal with my team. Anole is completely outclassed and would get blitzed and taken out immediately. Quicksilver can't deal with Aurora. Frenzy doesn't do anything special, but she doesn't really fear a whole lot of the power on the other side except for Wolverine, who'd presumably have his hands full with my other heavy-hitters lest they just run over 2/3 of his supporting cast from the word go. He and Captain UK are the only real problems, but again, Namor has them both beat individually and once my team gets the numbers advantage they're just gonna get overwhelmed. May not be easy per se, but they'll go down eventually.

Anyway, there's my piece. Votes to come later tonight.

Match 2: The battle of the Beasts. One actively detracts from his team, the other is just kind of there for his. I'm not in love with either pitch here (Lopen's for reasons mentioned in previous rounds, MMX's because it feels like the Madrox involvement is jammed in to make sense of a leftover character or two and because I feel like I'd get bored of the at-first-glance intriguing premise after a couple issues), but Lopen's central dynamic is fun enough that it can eke out my vote. Seems like a close fight, too, and in absence of either of them pleading their respective case I'm gonna just go with my first instinct there and not think about it too hard.

Match 3: Easy vote both ways. Eddv's pitch, which was probably already my favorite, has now improved. I feel like I'm in a cartoon standing at the base of a mountain, watching a snowball rapidly gain mass, helpless to do anything but accept my fate as it steamrolls over me in Round 5.

Match 4: Again, easy both ways. Snake's pitch may still not be my cup of tea, but it's enough to overcome that feeling I get with Shad's pitch that I just read that story in House of X a few months ago.
