The Star Wars Holiday Special 20/100 An ultimately way too boring slog that feels like it takes forever to finish, but it's also a train wreck you just can't look away from, especially with some of the weirder aspects like the hologram circus act, cooking show, or the Diahann Carroll seductive song. Honestly the animated segment is decent enough on its own too. Christmas being such an easy target means you got to try extra hard to make things original and most importantly, funny. Much like the show, this album goes for gross-out humor which just isn't my bag, focusing on one-line jokes dragged out to full length songs that don't hold my interest for long. Somehow, the original songs featured here actually fare much better. Here's this guy who goes all over the world in like the span of 6 hours at best, breaks into your house, eats your food, and takes the credit away from your hard-working parents who actually got all the gifts for you. It's easy to see why so many horror movies are made about killer Santas now. Santa can be a pretty big dick too, especially in the Rankin-Bass specials. You would think Santa, the paragon of joy and giving, would be the last to bully Rudolph but nope, he's right there in the fray with everyone else. On the flipside though, the idea of Santa can be very inspiring, pushing young kids to be better and to think of others first, especially those who may be less fortunate than you. I've watched the Macy's Parade every morning since I was a kid with my whole family and it's a tradition I just love so much. Then the food is amazing, and my grandma makes her Italian Wedding Soup every year which is just fantastically good! Turkey and stuffing is top tier too. And we have pastries for dessert with black coffee.
