Do you think this Commercial is Sexist?
Vote
The high end fitness brand lost 942 million in market value in the aftermath but claim they have received "positive" comments from the public too They said they received positive and meaningful impact from customers who were gifted a Peloton Bike or Treadmill and said their spot was to celebrate that fitness and wellness journey as they were attempting to communicate a different way The stock was down 6% in a day as the exercise equipment company was vilified over the commercial titled "The Gift That Gives Back" and shows a woman getting a STATIONARY BIKE from her HUSBAND for Christmas as she documents her year long FITNESS journey in a series of selfie clips and her saying "thank you" to her husband for the bike Viewers savaged the add calling it sexist, misogynistic and humiliating and cringeworthy The stock fell 9% before recovering a bit as it was the single biggest loss in the companies history Analysts expect the company to stop airing the ad as the company expected to have a good holiday season but now it's reversed The ad shows a SKINNY woman gasping in shock and says "A Peloton" when she spots the over 2000 execise bike on Christmas. She then documents herself using it and working out EVERYDAY for a YEAR in sweaty workouts as her husband watches and then she thanks her husband for giving the gift and ends with them watching the tv and ends with her saying "A year ago, i didn't realize how much this would change me. Thank you" Social media says this encourages negative stereotypes an implies a husband will get a more attractive wife in return for giving her an exercise bike One person said "The woman is rail thin already and her asshole husband thinks she's still not thin enough?. Nothing says maybe you should lose a few pounds like gifting your already rail thin partner a Peloton". A parody video has already been released racking up thousands of views The company declined to comment to Dailymail on this Do you think this ad is Sexist? https://i.imgur.com/VZplcDx.jpg https://i.imgur.com/DK3DwwC.jpg https://i.imgur.com/t6QU0TF.jpg https://i.imgur.com/UWzSS0c.jpg https://i.imgur.com/WbMc95V.jpg Twitter - https://i.imgur.com/epyoVEd.jpg https://i.imgur.com/Ioipi5l.jpg https://i.imgur.com/PKPu9QQ.jpg https://i.imgur.com/RMGY3tv.jpg https://i.imgur.com/LORnSHy.jpg https://i.imgur.com/wpftC6r.jpg --- 2019 will be the end of random news..https://linkto.run/p/QV29F5V0 call me mrduckbear, sweater monkeys. Guessing most of the outrage was manufactured for self-promotion because that doesn't *sound* bad. Granted, I'd need to watch the actual commercial which isn't linked here.

They REEEE in anger b/c "she was already thin!" (as if the only point of exercise is to get thin, vs. building muscle mass or just general fitness, but I digress), but I fucking guarantee you if they did the exact same commercial except w/ a woman 50 lbs heavier who has lost weight by the end of the ad, the same exact people would be screeching in anger even louder about the company "body shaming" the woman.
Those bikes are stupid expensive (and apparently only that expensive b/c of the "premium pricing" effect -- used to be $1200 but people assumed they must be cheaply made; then increased the price and sold way more...people are so fucking stupid...) and I'd never buy one. But cripes. It's just a company selling a product, making a commercial showing someone buying one as a gift for his wife, to promote it around the holidays. Get over it! Fucking twitter is cancer... ... Copied to Clipboard!

Outrage culture strikes again. I wounder though if the roles were reversed would the same folk say it was sexist? Doubtful. Still it is a story from the cesspool that is Twitter so it can be ignored.

I just watched it. Theres nothing offensive in the slightest about it.
Anyone offended by it is making a bunch of baseless assumptions in the first place to reach their goal of moral outrage, such as... Full Throttle posted... One person said "The woman is rail thin already and her asshole husband thinks she's still not thin enough?. Nothing says maybe you should lose a few pounds like gifting your already rail thin partner a Peloton". There is absolutely nothing in the ad that does anything to show that the husband thinks his wife isnt thin enough, or that the woman thinks she needs to lose weight. She looks the exact same at the end of the commercial (when she seemingly achieved her goal) as she did at the beginning. Overweight people arent the only ones who have goals that are fitness related. If anything, the people getting outraged for this reason seem to have a mindset that only overweight people should have a desire to exercise. --- Live action Hungry Hungry Hippos though, now that was a sport. ~Aeon Azuran ... Its just a fucking commercial. And while its sort of cheesy, theres nothing bad about it. Its just like any other normal commercial. People are really getting mad over this? Maybe she wants the bike. Maybe she liked spin class and wanted to do more at home... Maybe she was getting fit or working in cardio. Who even claimed that she needed to lose weight? People are shitty sometimes... But thats also just Twitter outrage, so no one cares...

I delivered dozens of these bikes over my time as a delivery worker, and repaired others. And I think I can safely say one thing
Peloton bikes are a SCAM! The power wire will always, ALWAYS grind against the wheel of the bike. And the only way to get it to not do that is by zip tieing it to the bike. This is a design flaw. A calculated design flaw. You cant even pedal the bike without special shoes! And youre expected to pay a monthly fee to actually get to use its live training feature. Its super aggressive. Most of the people I delivered to were SUPER rich, and you could tell they werent going to use them anyway. There was even a house I went to that already had one, but it was used as a coat rack. The owners claimed that they bought the first one too early, and that they were FINALLY gonna do it together. i doubt they did anyway fuck pelaton. --- https://imgur.com/hCHZS1f "The worst posts on this site come from accounts that have been for either 15 minutes, or 15+ years" -Zado19 ...
