I want to mail a video game in one of the usps blue mailboxes but they say online that the package must be less than 1/2 inch thick and video game cases are 1/2 inch thick. The envelope would add a tiny bit to that.

Has anyone tried this and had it work out? I've always just brought them to the post office before now.

I haven't tried using the blue mailbox, but I doubt they are measuring the envelopes in there. They just don't want bozos putting in oversized packages.

I'd be worried about someone dropping something into the box that would damage the game if it fell right on top.

I just go inside of the post office and go to a clerk

the self mailing things are for light mail, if it weighs a certain amount it becomes a parcel

The big metal blue boxes?

I've shipped out a bubble mailer well over and inch thick in one of those and it arrived just fine.

Although I'd probably go inside to at least the self-serve kiosk if you're mailing a video game, because you're going to want tracking.

Well I print the postage at home. Just don't want to go to the post office because mine sucks

In that case, as long as it's secure and doesn't clog the box, you should be fine.

Like I said, I've crammed stuff into a thick bubble mailer and it got delivered. If you have tracking/return address, the worst that can happen is they hold it at the post office if you're remote, or return it to you.

As someone who used to work at a post office and would occasionally empty those blue boxes, as long as you have the proper postage on the package youre fine

Also if you print the postage at home, you could just mail it from your home.

or is your mailbox too small?

I just came from the post office

they said if you paid for the printed label and its ready to go, yea, blue box is a go

if it weighs more than 10 ounces, and try to use stamps, THATS a no go. And thats what I was thinkin of

apparently they put that rule into effect because of the unabomber

learn something new everyday

yeah I have one of those community mailboxes with a small outgoing mail slot big enough for a #10 envelope or similar.

My previous home was about a 3 minute walk from a postal annex type store so I always just used that before now.
