This is a little project I started working on back in 2011. Back then, this forum was the only real support it had, and I haven't forgotten it. No matter how far I've come, this is where my roots are, and I couldn't have done it without y'all.

So, thanks for that.

Anyway, a few of y'all have caught wind of the fact that version 2.0 - which itself has been in the works for 2 years now - was officially released at the new year on January 1st, and one of you mentioned that I should make a thread about it here, so... here we are!

Recommend! It fixes most if not all of the problems I have with FFVI that prevent me from enjoying it on further playthroughs. I like not having to powergame/worry about levels and having espers equipped for bonuses!

Play it!

I'm playing through 2.0 right now and I'm saved before the magitek research facility and it has been very and fun and fair. Only comment is that some bosses seem to have a lot of hp (dadaluma seemed to take foreverrrr even with the drill/sap on him), which doesn't necessarily make the fights harder but just makes them longer. From a design standpoint, this makes sense if you are trying to make the boss fights have a more epic feel or be more meaningful, but it's odd to see them take that long when I'm used to them just feeling like another normal encounter in the original version

'bout what level were you when you fought Dadaluma? I seem to recall you being something of a low-level guy... I expect around level 12 for that fight.

I mean, it's more of a challenge then vanilla because vanilla was piss easy. We seek to avoid the "difficulty hack" label, though, because I feel that the prevalence of "kaizo"-style hacks has largely stigmatized the medium as a whole. Brave New World is difficult, but it's <i>fair</i> difficulty, or at least that's the aim. And it's certainly not as hard as something that actually intends to be a difficulty hack.

Just go in and toss out your expectations based on having played the original game - they'll get you killed more than they will help.

I have one player right now who's never played the original game and, unsurprisingly, he's doing quite well.

That shit doesn't really work. Case in point, AM2R is still in active development to this day while the creator has moved on to enjoy a job working on the sequel to Ori and the Blind Forest thanks to all of the attention that was brought to his project in large part to being C&D'd.

Brave New World was designed so that it can be approached by a new player and not feel like you're missing anything or you have to have played the original to "get it". We currently have a player who never did play the original and he's enjoying himself so far (over halfway through the game)

I'll have to check this out. FF VI is my favorite game of all time. It'll be nice to play it again but with a fresh take

I am the new player BTB referenced above and I really am enjoying BNW. I don't feel like I've missed out on anything by not playing vanilla first. I'm streaming my playthrough on Twitch, so BTB and others in the community have been chiming in to point out what's different. Most of it is quality of life, but all of it has been seamless.
If you're a new player and you're considering jumping right into BNW, just do it.
Some non-spoiler tips from my personal experience (even if you've played vanilla before): Pay attention in all fights and talk to all of the NPCs lol.
I've been fairly active in the Discord, if any of you have any questions about my experience so far.

A lot has changed since then, and there's also a patch that restores most of the script to its original if you want.

As much as Deschain promotes it as such, that's not exactly what it is. Putting the original script in Brave New World would break it since a lot of it would be completely inaccurate and a lot of relevant information would no longer be present. What Deschain did was take a text dump of BNW's script, look for any line that might possibly offend a die-hard purist, and replace it with something bland and boring like Ted Woolsey would write.

It's quite literally Brave New World with a personality-ectomy. I love Deschain and I love that he did this work out of love for my game, but I fucking HATE that Goddamn script.

Are there any new/not in the original game missables before the floating continent? Don't mean tiny stuff, just don't wanna miss a new esper or something that wasn't originally in the WoB

I believe the only thing permanently missable in the WoB is the Water Rondo dance for Mog, and the Cave of Narshe rages before Locke's scenario.

Just Water Rondo and a select few rage formations you may have possibly missed.

Gau has 35 WoB rages.

I still haven't done the floating continent. I know grinding isn't necessary, but I feel like I want to get every party members learnable spells out of the way before I go
