Truth be told, ffvi is the only FF I haven't beaten up to 12 because i get the the veldt and just lose interest.

I'm down for the cause on principle, but what incentive is there in making the game an even more miserable slog?

Find a way to keep me from breaking FFV by mid-game and you have my undivided attention.

Good news is that the Rage list has been significantly trimmed down. (Like from 200+ down to 64)

And now you don't even need to be on the Veldt to learn the Rage. You can do it in normal encounters.

Plus, the Rage menu now shows what each Rage does. (2/3 Cure, 1/3 Attack; etc)

It's probably one of the most significant improvements the mod has made.

Gau probably had more work put into him than every other character combined at this point. There's about six different QoL hacks specifically aimed toward rage, from listing them Alphabetically to greying out the leap option if Gau already knows the rages in a formation to being able to pull him out of rage with a certain item.

The original game needed this. Hated not remembering if I knew a rage group.

Not surprised to hear that. The regular game had such redundant and/or useless rages that it was really rage inducing. Not mentioning how annoying the whole mechanics were.

Morph is permanent until manually reverted or Terra dies. It increases both her damage dealt and damage taken; the penalty for incoming damage is reduced by raising Terra's stamina.

If successful, Steal doesn't consume Locke's turn. Instead of EVERY enemy having a stealable item and making the player want to rob everyone, only humanoid targets carry items. There are no missable theft-exclusive items.

Rather than Edgar's tools being heavily front-loaded and largely redundant (i.e. Drill vs. Chainsaw), they're mroe spread out with more diverse effects. Ditto for Blitz.

The Bushido meter now actually fills at an acceptable speed and the ones that deal physical damage do so based on the power of Cyan's equipped weapon rather than not caring about it.

Tools, Blitz, Bushido, and Throw are all now actually affected by the blind status whereas they were not before (even with the evade bug fixed).

Setzer's slots are de-rigged so that they are now purely skill-based than RNG. A losing spin now heals more HP and is a poor man's version of Banon's health command.

The list goes on.

To this day I'm still baffled how that ever made it to release.

There's just no way anyone could have actually used the ability and thought "yup, this is the pacing we're aiming for". Ice ages move quicker than that damn bar.

Squaresoft is very good at coming up with ideas. It is very BAD at following through with them. They encourage innovation even if that innovation is bad, makes no sense, or is flat-out broken. So you end up with a massive case of feature bloat rather similar to what you see with Microsoft. Must have something to do with the name.

Brave New World DOES remove the timer requirement for them, though, so there is that.

Finally got to sit down with this for a couple hours.
Keep in mind I only kind of glanced at the patch notes. >_>
I've definitely had more trouble with this than I ever had in the original version. I actually have to use items and plan out my turns lol. It seems that Interceptor shows up more often, and he really packs a punch.
I'm probably a bit underleveled. Did Terra's and Locke's stories, just got to the military base and met Cyan in Sabin's story. About level 9 right now. All the bosses I've fought so far were pretty tough, and took quite a while to kill. I kinda want to just get through the rest of these early bits so I can get some Espers and start messing around with those systems.

I think in the Hell Angel boss I saw the tapir more times than I ever have in all my previous playthroughs combined. Even with just spamming Runic, Celes fell asleep a few times. lol

I'm probably just bad. But Final Fantasy is also not really known for being difficult.

In a nutshell, this. We have one player who has never played vanilla FF6 before and he's been performing amazingly (he posted earlier in this thread - Jerhman is his name). And I attribute that to the lack of preconceptions about the game that he's had to unlearn from the vanilla game.

The "can't be suplexed" flag has been repurposed in Brave New World - literally everything can be suplexed.

It is affected by blind, however, which is how Sabin would have missed himself.

How much HP does Dadaluma have? I got a desperation attack on him that did over 2k damage, and he didn't die, and this is after fighting him for like 10 minutes, and using sap and slow and all that.

Locke, Edgar, Celes, Cyan. In Hindsight, I probably should have left Cyan and taken Shadow. Dadaluma took a very long time to kill. Everyone is between 13 and 15. And even in the back row and defending, his Jump and Spoon attacks were destroying people.

Jump should not OHKO a defending character unless it's Gau. And Dispatch is a really good way of doing damage to him, but in that team Celes is your main slow-setter.
