I've only seen the Vengeance trilogy and I Saw the Devil, but I loved them. I should really watch more.

(Will watch Parasite in a couple weeks.)

Yessssssss. One of my absolute favorite things in horror is regular folks showing how increasingly badass they can be and I really can't think of any single case that does it better than Sang-Hwa. Watched the movie with a bunch of friends and almost every single scene of his resulted in a room full of people screaming "holy shit, this guy!"

It's honestly insane that Parasite is South Korea's first nomination in Best International Film.

parasite was great, I also watched oldboy on netflix like a year ago which was great

I'm also pretty sure I've seen mother, although that must have been a while, but I think it was pretty good

I guess I should watch more Korean movies

We're part of a sub-culture that's ten+ years ahead of the mainstream when it comes to basically anything Asian. Frankly I'm surprised that wasn't its only nomination.

Ohhh right The Host was the movie being parodied in Epik High's music video for Wannabe. Maybe I'll watch that!

As far as I can remember the only Korean movies I've seen are Parasite and My Sassy Girl.

I would personally never think that someone who liked Parasite would like Burning too. It's a much slower-paced, meditative film, frequently with very long takes and scenes without any dialog at all. They have little in common besides being Korean.

yup. i suspiciously stayed away from it in 2018, fearing it would be an arthouse film. then after seeing parasite i was jazzed about korean movies. whoops!

I haven't seen Parasite yet, but I love Burning and Peppermint Candy (and Oasis).

I've been meaning to check out more pre-2000s South Korean cinema. It seems to be a major blind spot for most cinephiles and I'm curious as to why. There are a good number of films available on Korean Film Archive's YouTube channel that I'm dying to check out.

I shall set down in a few lines how upright Maldoror was during his early years, when he lived happy. There: done.
