Current Events > Assassin's Creed seems kinda fun. It's a little hard to learn stuff, though.

I'm playing AC3, and I just got through the "tutorial" on eavesdropping conversations. This game is...different. The sneaking bits, climbing over buildings, but in a realistic way, etc. Although I suppose, if you grew up with stuff like MGS, or something similar, a lot of it will be familiar. Even OOT had some sneaking bits (like going to the castle as a child). To me, Assassin's Creed feelings like a more plot-driven version of the Tome Raider franchise, but also with shades of the original Mirror's Edge, and even the more actiony Resident Evils thrown in.

I'm not sure if I want to keep playing, though. Some people have played every game in this franchise, haven't they?

Combat just consists of countering every single attack.

*Tomb Raider

I've been mostly button mashing for combat. Just keeping pressing X...and hope for the best.

3 was the game that turned me off from the franchise after I liked 2 and its offshoots. So I wouldnt judge the whole series just on it. The gameplay though is pretty much the same throughout the games but it opens up more when it becomes open world side-quests and you tend to be able to move a bit quicker and go with more action and combat.

Not quite. 3 is one of the ones that had varying enemy types that need different methods to deal with them. You're not likely to 'die' in combat very often, but if you just spam counter in AC3 you're going to get tossed around a lot by later enemies.

You should have went with the Ezio trilogy. I mean if youre new to the franchise I would say start with AC1. But people always say skip it, but I liked it, it sets the table for the whole series. You can hack and slash your way through it pretty quickly or you can play as intended and study gathered intel and formulate arrival, execution, and escape plans for each target.

So you started with AC3? I've never heard of someone doing that before lol, you must be lost on the plot.

I loved 3 mainly because I got into the multiplayer aspect of it and I got real good at it. I think the online multiplayer that Ubisoft made for assassins creed was underrated and I wish they would bring it back. I don't know why 3 gets bashed so much even the single player was enjoyable.

You gotta start with AC1 for better story chronology IMO. Past AC3 it doesn't really matter that much, but the story of 3 and all of its prequels are all connected.

As for the gameplay, you'll get used to it pretty quick. It's different but not hard by any means.

I honestly dont know what I disliked about 3 so much. Might have been the super long introduction. Might have been the fact that colonial america felt alot smaller and shorter then the towns in previous games.

The multiplayer was never going to be something I would invest much if any time in so that addition really is nothing to me.

Oh wow, for some reason I thought TC was talking about AC: Revelations since it's the 3rd game in Ezio's story.

I actually really loved AC3, being honest. I loved the setting--snowy, revolution-era America is my jam. It's honestly my favorite aesthetic in the series. Black Flag remains my favorite, mostly for the robust ship mechanics, but AC3 is probably second on the list. The story wasn't quite as good as Ezio's trilogy, but a lot of other factors combined to make it a cooler experience for me.
