Yes but if you don't want to do NM raids/ex/spend 100k+ gil it's the only way to get a decent weapon. Plus, the first step is...usually not that bad? Depending on how hard they make it, it's generally an okay way to get a reasonable weapon to start with.

We know next to nothing about this relic but I think it's supposed to at least have a unique trial? So I'm not expecting it to be too bad. As long as it isn't literally Eureka.

anima relic right now is like 10000 poetics or something plus a bunch of super easy unsyncable dungeons+hard trials, and maybe an hour of spamming a9s

Eureka Anemos is the only relic I've done. Fuck Pagos.

I've done all normal and alliance raids. It's ok. I'll stick with Augmented Deepshadow until those 4-7 Eden's verse blades. The effort for anything else is not worth it.

I imagine there'll be a lot more people than usual queuing for the Ivalice raids tomorrow once the penny drops that they have to clear it to do Bozja Citadel. So at least you'll have an easier time getting into one!

They're pretty fun dungeons to do. People just don't like getting them in Alliance roulette because they can't sleepwalk through them like with Crystal Tower.

I was an idiot and Heavensward and did two animas in various stages of unnerf and nerfed but had to do the unnerfed Umbrite step twice on both jobs. And then because that wasn't enough during Stormblood I went back and did my Bard anima because that shit is baller, and it actually isn't too bad now.

I peaced out of Eureka entirely, and I'm basically just gonna grab the lowest effort ones I can this time around.

If you're entirely unfamiliar, before Eureka they had multiple steps and would generally alternate between low-effort upgrades and time-consuming grinds. The smartest thing to do (besides not to play) is to do the easy steps when you can and then wait until they nerf the grind when the next upgrades get released.

And if you ever level another job it's worth it just to unlock the roulette, which gives you a ton of exp.

So the relic weapon quest has "a lengthy instanced duty" with MULTIPLE bosses and autosaves between them. And then there's a new, unnamed (in the notes) duty in the Raid Finder that is presumably an Extreme version of it?

I am very intrigued by all this deliberate secrecy.

Yeah so the first step of the weapon is definitely worth doing. All you have to do is a handful of solo story quests (which are pretty neat) and they hand you a 485 weapon. And if you want any for alt jobs after it only costs 1000 poetics!

And it looks like doing the EX trial gets you 480 gear.

Ooh, I like the Tonfas for MNK! MCH's gun looks ok. I'm always a little disappointed by DNC's weapons. I guess there's only so much you can do with rings, but they never really stand out.

485? I thought it would at least be 490 if not 500.

Well It's better than most of my other weapons. My DRG is the only job with a 480. The rest are 460 or 470

Relic weapons are always among the worst endgame choices available when they're first added to the game. They eventually become BiS but only at the very end of the expansion. So in like 5.55 if you've kept that relic up to date it'll be the best weapon you can get.

usually when a new stage is added they're bis for a little tiny bit but anyone doing harder content will be able to replace it before it matters

I'm pretty much always in voice comms when I play, but I randomly wasn't when i started the duty. A friend logged on right when answers started, and I'm just like 'yeah nope gonna finish this whole duty immersed'

Finished the first two tiers of Ivalice raids tonight. Thankfully no wipes yet, despite half the groups having no clue what was going on.

we saw the introductory use of that but not the part where you have to dodge multiple aoes while it's happening cuz boss died too fast

I haven't done the new relic yet, but I'm really disappointed we didn't get more Eureka-like content. I know it wasn't popular, but I really enjoyed the Eureka grind, so much more than previous relics. I can't stand having bullshit RNG mechanics involved, so just straigh up grinding away while I caught up on shows on my second screen was great.

I liked how different Eureka was, but I definitely got burnt out after the first zone. Maybe it would have been different if I played the whole expansion.

Wasn't actually a fan of endless NM camping and killing in FFXI either. I mess around too much.

I was in a queue for Dun Scaith for literally over 3.5 hours and a tank rejected it, and then it dropped back to 5 people

If you really want to run specifically Dun Scaith, you need to be queuing at peak hours and hope it catches onto the coat-tails of people queuing for the Alliance Raid roulette.

Even then there's a solid chance of at least one person going "nope" and leaving as soon as they load in because they'd rather eat the quitter penalty than actually run it. As cool as it is, it just isn't a very popular raid, mainly due to the difficulty and the reputation it has for wipes.

I was getting those parties at the start of ShB, but havent had any issues since a few months after release.

We haven't even gotten to the grindy step yet

There isn't Relic content yet, it's pure story. Hold off until 5.3 to find out what the actual grind looks like imo.
