yeah but Hagatha and shudderwock both give the deck a late game push (hagatha especially). It's going to be hard for shaman to come up with something imo for the deck that fits so well into the murloc game plan and not really dilute the deck too much with other stuff (like those dragon support cards etc). like when compared to other aggressive styled decks murloc shaman has always been leaning more to aggresive midrange imo.

I mean, murloc shaman probably just needs to move in a new direction; adjust to the cards it has access to--might be a deck with less of a lategame push in exchange for a stronger earlygame push.

Serpentshrine Portal goes into every shaman deck; 3 mana Flanking Strike that can go face.

Vivid Spores might actually be worth considering in murlocs. Deathrattle resummon this murloc is quite a bit better than deathrattle resummon a 1/1 murloc--might be worth the 2 extra mana. It's funny, most of the decks I've thought of Vivid Spores doesn't sound that great, but in murlocs? Yeah...might be worth testing in murlocs.

Felfin Navigator is a neutral murloc with murloc synergy, so it goes in too.

Two games in a row where I get an early soul juggler and good demons and then I NEVER get offered another soul juggler. About 10-12 turns for the first game and 5-7 turns for the second game. Nobody else in either lobby was going demons.

After a lot of playing this weekend I ended at around 6800, up from the 6300-6500 I'd been hovering at. Still trying to work my way back up to the high of 7250 I hit back in the day before murlocs were nerfed and demons were buffed. Forcing murlocs every game was enough to get me to 7250 in those days.

Edit: nvm I didn't know what spores did I didn't realize it was all minions, I just assumed from your post it was a single minion for some reason. I'm dumb! I still think the cheapness of soul is what makes it great though, it gives you the option midgame to just dump a bunch of cheapos and soul in the same turn, with spores you either have to hope they don't clear your board or wait late enough in the game till you have more mana. I'm not sold on it.

I've been out of this game for like a year. I *think* the last set I played was Rise of Shadows, but I didn't stick around too long. But I heard about the huge update they're doing and it got my attention. How is the state of the game right now?

I mean how does it compare to like...I dunno. The Frozen Throne/Kobolds & Catacombs meta, and how when Witchwood rolled Standard over those two sets still fucked everything up? I know the new set isn't out yet but how does it look?

New set looks like it won't be as bad as DoD, but there's a lot of strong cards in that one too. Demon Hunter cards look like they're going to inevitable need nerfing but we'll see. The arguably strongest deck right now, Galakrond Rogue, is losing basically nothing and we might be seeing the best deck remain the best deck for a while to come if they don't hand out some nerfs.

My prediction is rogue will see a massive amount of play as it's already the top deck and loses basically nothing with the rotation. Hunter as well probably. Demon Hunter due to it being the new hotness. Most people will stick with stuff they already know is good and wait for the meta to settle down and see what decks the pros made that they can copy.

So which one of the free decks should I go for? I'm debating between Mage, Rogue, Warlock, and Shaman.

Mage only because I like Reno decks. Rogue only because it looks like it's Galakrond so if it's going to be among the strongest decks it should be solid. Warlock and Shaman I usually tend to enjoy (especially Warlock) and both are also Galakrond decks.

Of those 4, Rogue is easily the strongest followed next by...probably Mage. Warlock and Shaman are pretty close, might give the slight edge to Warlock.

Well decided to see if pushing to legend was more reasonable under the new rank system.

Got up to rank 1 without losing, lost back down to rank 3, and then bounced around for a long time before getting it. So kind of felt similar in the end, but this is also the first time I've gotten legend so early in the season, so eh, I suppose it's less of a grind? Still enough of a grind that I probably won't do it regularly.

It's a much more mild version of TFT/KnC meta.

Like...if you are a value oriented deck you want to run a Galakrond, but the Galakronds are nothing compared to what the KFT Death Knights were like. Hero power summon...two 1/1s oh man. Hero power add a lackey to your hand. Wowzers. (All the Galakrond cards are actually quite good, but yeah...KFT was something else).

For the most part it's just a bunch of aggro and midrange decks, with a couple control decks. The decks have cost-efficient cards in them, much like KnC, but this was the more innocuous side of Kobolds and Catacombs. Like...KnC had a lot of high power cards like Dire Mole and Flanking Strike, and spellstones and fungalmancer. They were really good, but they didn't warp the game beyond recognition.

KnC also has absurd game warping cards like Carnivorous Cube, Skull of the m'nari, and Aluneth, there aren't really equivalents for those cards in standard right now.

Man, why does everyone seem to think Al'ar is some epitome of unplayable card?

It's like...a 5 mana 7/6 (in that your opponents need to deal 6 damage to it in one turn in order to kill it). It's worse in some situations (when your opponent has two 3/3s to trade into it, cause one of the 3/3s live). But it's also better in other situations (when your opponent has a board clear such as Brawl, cause it regrows after the brawl).

I could be wrong, but I wouldn't be overly surprised if there's some niche deck that uses Al'ar.

(As for legendaries I'll open and not use...IDK, probably most of the legendaries I open; I'm pretty skeptical about the primes whose first half body isn't a card you'd put in your deck just for the first body. So like...most of the primes look suspect to me, in other words).

No they need to deal 3 damage to it twice which is pretty different in my opinion. The second set of 3 damage doesn't even have any trading risk associated with it because it's a 0/3 at that point.

It would be better if it actually DID something on the turn it awakened. The egg should be like, "deal 3 damage to all enemy minions and transform into Al'ar". I mean it would still be trash but maybe playable.

The design is cool though so I think it would see more play if it was a common with a statline like 3 mana 3/3. Annoying to deal with but not oppressive.

Were the expansion release times always 1pm EDT? I could have swore it was usually around 11, but the Hearthstone Reddit has the timer at another three and a half hours.

Yeah, that's true, dealing 3 damage twice is quite a bit more annoying to pull off. Like...Harvest Golem is technically a 2 attack minion with 4 health to get through, but it's obviously not a 2/4; you can't just attack it once with a Truesilver and expect it to be gone forever. Likewise you can't kill Al'ar with one fireball but you can kill Al'ar with two Frostbolts.

Anyway, had pretty good luck with pack opening (5 legendaries in 76 packs). But more to the point my epics lined up pretty good with my legendaries

Lady Liadrin + both epic Librams and one epic paladin weapon. Went ahead and crafted a second Lightforged crusader for that deck.

Soul Mirror + all priest epics.

The Warlock board clear/minion kill guy

Lady Vashj and 3/4 Shaman epics

(Final legendary was Al'ar, which I still think has some potential as an anti-control tool, so not too upset about that).

I thought I would be heading straight to wild this expansion, but if Libram paladin is just going to be handed to me like that I guess I'll mess around in standard for a bit.

I think Team5 has some weird decision to not create "auto-return" cards unless there's some condition to make them come back like the plant that requires you play 3 cards in a turn or the druid card that needs 8 healing.
