I keep reading things along the lines of "I can't believe people are still leaving their homes!"

That's hogwash. You can leave your home. You just need to avoid groups larger than 10 people, practice good hygiene, and keep a reasonable distance from people when you do go out. There's nothing about sitting at home all day unless you've traveled recently or confirmed have the illness.

They had a big broadcast in the Chicagoland area that was basically like "You can shop if you need to shop, you can go on a walk if you like just stay away from people if you can. Otherwise stay home."

No one actually reads the news or pays close attention to announcements; most folks read "quarantine" and assumed it meant a full lockdown.

In the cities where this is spreading fast, where the fuck are you supposed to go? I mean, you can hang out by your house and walk around at night, but other than work or groceries, there isn't much to do. In the day time, streets are still filled with people.

The mayor in Italy that was freaking out on YouTube was basically like "when did everybody decide they need to go jogging or running all of a sudden? Just stay inside ffs"

Well, gyms are closed. All the people who went there to use the treadmill no longer can.

I've been going on walks nearly every day for over a year and many of the usual people I see along my routes are nowhere to be found. I actually mostly see groups of kids running around. I absolutely need these walks though, for physical and especially mental health.

I live on the edge of a wooded area that leads down to an isolated creek that's almost invisible from all the nearest roads. If things get more serious and we're not supposed to go outside at all, I might have to sneak down there for a bit.

I don't have any motivation to go outside even though I'm starting to get bored at home not gonna lie. That's my normal routine though.

we have reports of hospitals sending people home (because of mild symptoms/not enough rooms)
and then their test results came back positive (and that time of waiting for a result, they've probably infected a lot more people)
