Hello hello I am back with more beautifully chaotic graphs to admire, for the bracket stage I am currently maintaining a list of all users and which songs they voted for: https://p0p0p0p.github.io/graphs/vgmc14/bracket.html

Basically, opposing songs from the same match tend to converge to opposite sides, like The Black Song on top and Memories of You on the bottom, and each user tends toward a positional average of the songs they voted for.

I'm using this format for now because I am too lazy to make it into a summary graph and compatibilities are too volatile anyway, where two people can swing from 80% to 60% in the span of a few days. Here, people sharing at least 3 supports are linked and you're brought closer together if you have more (Collen and Flamander had the most with 8, so they are very close to each other). This was actually something kaonashi thought of and coded for me; thank you kaonashi! And thanks to Mycro/Toxtricity and DireKrow for taking care of the compatibility spreadsheet where I get all my data. Once I have more samples to work with (maybe end of Bracket B, which would be 48+16 = 64 matches), I'll convert the voting graph into a compatibility summary like this one, which filters everything out to show only the most significant relationships and clusters.

Jenova Absolute had lots of (wasted) potential. Are there any good remixes of it out there? When I think about, the PC version of Absolute sounded way better (much fuller) than on the PS1, even if FF7 on PS1 had better music most of the time. I wish I had a copy of that version, but with all the different sound cards back then, the version I had is probably nowhere to be found.

I love those graphs, Player 0! I don't understand some things, though. Like, people who have had identical votes so far... shouldn't they be literally on top of each other? For example, Mycro/kaonashi/Place all have 100% compatbility right now, but their positions on the graph doesn't make it look like it? I mean, Mycro and kaonashi are close to each other, at least, but Place is farther away from them for some reason?

Also, I find it interesting that the people who had similar nominations as me are on the opposite side of me in terms of contest voting! (not that surprising when I think about it, since my nominations were more "mainstream" than my voting habits tend to be)

I love those graphs, Player 0! I don't understand some things, though. Like, people who have had identical votes so far... shouldn't they be literally on top of each other? All the voter graph has is which songs people voted for, after that it's just a physical spring simulation which tries to balance out all the forces. The right nodes will *generally* cluster together but it's not a guarantee, also there were some matches Place didn't vote in so the influence from those matches wasn't applied.

Seconded. Yesterday's matches were great, and I would've been satisfied with the outcome no matter what.
Although considering today's results so far and Day 7's losers, choosing which track to support for Wild Card #3 is gonna be tough, especially if both of the songs I voted for today lose their matches. We'll just have to wait and see.

I appreciate rwlh very much for finding the highest quality recordings available for music! However, the track is very short. If it only plays once it may have a subconscious negative impact on voters' impressions, so I might suggest we go back to the original recording I had earlier. The music doesn't quite have the sharpness (for lack of a better word) of the OST rip, true, but I think the (very small) difference in quality will have less of an impact than having it play through twice. As for the other, I just hate it when music ends abrupty, so the second recording doesn't appeal to me, either. Anway, as the original nominator of Battle 2, that is my two cents. It will probably lose in the first round regardless, but you never know!

re: gokinjo - yeah, i agree that it sucks but it's not a song where i'm like "omg how could anyone love this." i could see people who are into MIDI-ish songs in swing music style really digging this. we've had plenty of meme/joke noms over the years but i wouldn't say this is one of them.

and there have been many songs i dislike getting really far in the contests so yeah, gokinjo getting far doesn't stand out to me.

Phew, narrowly avoided a 0/3 day there! I only had strong feelings on the ToC match, so I don't mind trading that win for the other two.

Fun fact 1: This day featured our highest votals since day 5, which was also the last day to have Pokemon. Seems like the big names in match 1 drew some more people compared to days 6-8!

Disgusting. Yesterday had two good songs, one boring song, one bad song, and two downright offensive songs. About the best result yesterday was that the boring song was able to beat one of the downright offensive songs. Still, I can assure you right now that all three of today's losers will be better than any of yesterday's winners for the simple fact that all six songs qualify. By a mile. Like, five of them are better than the two I actually liked yesterday.
