I used to be salary, and while it was nice to just cut out early if I had nothing to do, it was also an excuse for me to carry a pager without needing to get payed for it, so I'll stick with being hourly. --- I am a Contract Software Developer. I only get overtime if I work late on billable hours, and overtime can either be paid out at the normal 1.5x rate, or I can take it off at a 1:1 ratio. I work in the healthcare system as a Public Health Education Specialist, so our payroll system lobs me, our therapists, and our RNs under a "Pay Per Visit" scale. The way our visits get weighted ends up amounting to a certain set of hours, and they must equal at least 40 hours/week. If our visits/charting/whatever weights amount to anything under 39 hours, PLT/PTO must be used. We also are not eligible for overtime, but they will occasionally give us bonus pay for on-call visits, volunteer services, or other random acts that they deem "above and beyond" position expectations. So... kind of overtime, but not? Honestly, I wish they'd just classify all of us as salaried like my previous clinic did and call it a day.
