Statistically a 10% sample of 200 million people is enough to achieve the same result as having everyone vote in basically all elections.* Unless there are systemic effects. Most presidents probably don't go too in depth on modeling. Why should they when they have experts advising them on what the models predict? Billionaire businessmen probably like to understand the models they are using as a group, but Trump has built his image around making decisions on the fly using intuition.
