I work as an engineer/drafter and have been getting by with a scientific calculator, CASIO fx-115 ES since 2010. Occasionally I also use the built-in Windows 10 calculator and the more complicated stuff is done via Excel spreadsheets.

I used that scientific calculator for the EIT/FE exam and though part of me feels the urge to replace it with a new graphing calculator, the other part of me is telling me I will never use the other functions of that graphing calculator if a scientific calculator has been sufficient all this time. I think I just wanted a new "toy" for work.

Do you still use a calculator for work and what kind?

Comments are appreciated,

Thank you

Just a basic calculator with arithmetic functions at the bench, for quick calculations. Anything complicated is done at my desk on the computer.

If I do actually use a calculator at work, I use the one on my phone, but it's mostly just adjusting recipes (usually x2 or x4), so I usually do it in my head.

I work part time as a calculus tutor, so I use a calculator almost daily. The place I work uses TI-nspire

I actually do for finding ratios. I'm old enough to remember the rule on finding multiplication and division when finding them and occasionally will use paper and pencil. I always found windows calculator to slow and will use my phone if I need one.

But I'm in my 40's. I still use a dictionary and thesaurus before looking up the word on the internet.

Haven't used a dedicated one in a couple years. It was a generic one that just did the basic functions.

You mean an actual calculator and not an app? I have several that I use, including a TI-5160 II adding machine and a bunch of cheap Casio scientific calculators.

I have an HP67 handheld programmable calculator and an HP97 desktop programmable calculator, but the NiCad battery packs in both are totally shot and they aren't designed to run off AC. I would like to fix them and find out if the magnetic cards I have are still readable.

For my phone, I use a couple of apps. For a general purpose calculator I use Office Calculator Pro, which has a tape function. For scientific calculations I usually use MathLab's Graphing Calculator, though lately I've been playing around with Microsoft Math Solver which lets you write out your formulas instead of just typing them in. Mathlab handles multiple formulas much better, however.

On my computer I use CalcTape for most simple calculations. It has a tape function which is always useful for doing things like taxes, and it saves your tape between sessions. When I need a fancier calculator I use Calc98, a very old but still functional scientific/financial/programming/conversion calculator. Or I use WolframAlpha.

I also have and know how to use, but don't generally use anymore, several slide rules including an Acu-math 400, a Pickett N-500-ES HI LOG/LOG, and several E6B flight computers.
