Your position seems to be that if a person says it's racist, then it's racist, end of story. I can't agree with that. I just don't think it being a slur boils down to whether it ends in er or a, and you'll find a shit load of black people who agree, since the value of my opinion on the subject is based entirely on my skin.

What he's getting at is that it's weird when white people try to lessen the effects of racial slurs against other races. It's also weird when people say "if black people can say it, why can't we?". Because it's a slur targeted at them and not you. It just looks so weird when people demand permission to say a slur

Now, I'm pretty desensitized enough to the 'a' variation that I don't care if other races say it, since 99% of the time it's used casually and harmlessly. However, my feelings aren't universal, and it'd be best for people of other races not to say it, especially around people they don't know

I'm not even talking about being able to say it, just that plenty of people see it as a slur no matter what it ends with. I really don't get the fascination with wanting to say it, or even wanting to be able to say it.

And I agree, nothing good is going to come from using it, so just don't.

There is nothing to investigate, in that I agree. He was recorded saying a racial slur, end of investigation. If he thinks racial sluts are jokes, that says to me and most rational people that he doesn't think it's bad to say them at all.

Plus, ban him from media? You realise most major sports require competitors to give access to the media? "I'm only here so I don't get fined."

I get both sides of this debate. But the reality is that there is and cannot be any such thing as a word that exists where if somebody says it it automatically means we can accurately slap a giant label on a huge aspect of their personality.

The reality is that people are very offended by the word. When that happens, people take it personally and when people take things personally they are very prone to assuming the worst in others. So they do. So it's easy to forget about context.

All my years on earth and I never accidentally used a racial slur. Not in the heat of the moment. Not as a joke, and not as smoothly as he just rolled it off his tongue in that video (with the Hard R too. Not too many people can utter the hard r that smoothly). Its obvious he uses the word regularly. You dont accidentally say a word like that. He knew who he was talking to, he knew what he was saying, and he sounded more than comfortable saying it.
