Week 1 (Stage: Mario Galaxy)

Mystery host: Hello, everyone, and welcome to week 1 of the Smash Ultimate Fighting League. Im your host, but probably not the host you were expecting. I am always by your side. I am joined by my co-host, who might be even more of a surprise since he is normally a man of few words. Say hello to the ones at home.

Mystery co-host: I usually dont say much because no one ever actually listens to me or asks for my opinions, so its nice to have someone here who actually wants my input. We had to find a way to crash the party here since we have somehow never been invited to join the actual Smash Ultimate roster despite our overwhelming popularity. Even so, it is always a pleasure.

Mystery host: You are certainly more gracious about it than I would be. Weve even got a few of our honorable peers in action tonight, but Ill try not to let my biases show through too much. Well, theres always that second wave of DLC fighters, right? Maybe I can ride the wave of success from my new smash hit game to land me in Smash Ultimate. I just hope they dont make me a clone.

Mystery co-host: Hey now, dont give too many hints about our identities! Were going to see if the viewers at home can figure it out by the end of the show. To kick off the Smash Ultimate Fighting League, weve got a bunch of tournaments in order to crown champions in every weight class, as well as tag teams and free for alls! I expect the time will just fly by tonight and every week. Enjoy the show, everyone!

Heavyweight Tournament

Match 1: Mega Man vs. Link

Mystery co-host: We kick off the Smash Ultimate Fighting League with a battle between two of the most popular characters out there, Mega Man and Link.

Mystery host: Although one is not as popular as others, perhaps!

*Link has heavy offense to start, MM cant hit him, MM goes on a flurry to balance things out, Link gets KOd at 160% (3-2 MM)*

Mystery host: Usually for Link, 160% is a good thing, but not here!

*Link struggles to get the kill but finally blows MM away with a bomb (2-2)*

Mystery co-host: Someone set Mega Man up the bomb!

*Link gets blown far off the stage, just barely gets back the first time, but cant quite make it the second time (2-1 MM)*

Mystery host: Links lack of mobility costs him in the end. Good move on Mega Mans part, strike where the enemy is weakest. Thats how I like to do it.

*Mega Man edge guards well for a while, but Link finally gets back on stage and blasts MM with a smash attack (1-1)*

Mystery co-host: I respect a man who wields a big sword.

*Mega Man enters final stock with a sizable percentage advantage, Link manages to catch up, but Mega Man finishes him off with a meteor strike (MM wins, 1-0)*

Mystery host: Mega Man wins! Link may not be used to losing in round 1 in some places, so its nice to see him get whats coming to him, hahahaha.

Mystery co-host: Link couldnt take advantage of the early offensive onslaught and loses despite dealing more damage than he received. Some hero of time.

Match 2: Dark Samus vs. Mii Gunner (Protoman)

Mystery host: We've got a couple of impostors going at it here, with a Samus clone and a gunner pretending to be Protoman!

*Both fighters are trading heavy blows right from the start, but Gunner takes the advantage and eventually knocks Dark Samus off the top of the screen with an up smash (Gunner 3-2)*

Mystery co-host: Both fighters are proficient from long range, but the Gunner does a lot of damage up close as well.

*Dark Samus struggles to connect with its offense and gets wrecked by a charged shot (Gunner 3-1)*

Mystery host: Wow, this is awfully one-sided! You've always gotta be on the lookout for that fabled charged shot

*Dark Samus continues to have difficulty racking up damage but eventually gets a kill with an up-smash (Gunner 2-1)*

Mystery co-host: Dark Samus has been inconsistent this entire match. I don't know if it can mount a comeback from here.

*Dark Samus fights to hold on with its last stock, getting up to 185%, but Gunner uses his shield to deflect a fully charged shot to blow Dark Samus away and win the match (Gunner wins, 2-0)*

Mystery host: Mii Gunner (Protoman) wins! What a way to finish the fight, with the patented Proto Shield saving the day! Perhaps some copyright infringement here though.

Mystery co-host: A clinic on offensive and defensive proficiency from the Gunner, dealing out 506% and only taking 204%. He could be a threat in this tournament despite being a heavy underdog in this fight.

Match 3: Captain Falcon vs. Mii Swordfighter (Zero)

Mystery host: We've got another Mii impersonating a Mega Man character, but can he replicate the success of the Gunner?

*Swordfighter comes out ready to fight, quickly forces Falcon off the edge and pushes him down with his down-air, Falcon cant recover and gets KOd at a mere 25% (Swordfighter 3-2)*

Mystery co-host: Falcon looks shell shocked out there! He couldn't have seen this early deficit coming!

*Falcon nearly gets KOd at a low percentage again but manages to hang on, Swordfighter racks up quite a bit of damage but cant quite finish off Falcon, and then Falcon hits him with the patented knee to blast Swordfighter off the stage (2-2)*

Mystery host: Wow, who knew a knee could be so powerful! I prefer upper body attacks myself.

*Swordfighter gets cocky with his advantage (Falcon already had 150% damage) and tried to toy with him off the stage and knock him down too far to reach the stage, but Falcon uses back to back up-Bs to recover and get back onto the stage, Swordfighter stops messing around and KOd Falcon at 196% (Swordfighter 2-1)*

Mystery co-host: An impressive move by Captain Falcon chaining those up-Bs to avoid getting KO'd again, but it feels like a lucky shot more than anything else. Swordfighter has just been better so far.

*Falcon struggles to finish off Swordfighter to get him down to his last stock and accumulates 110% damage before crushing him with a meteor strike (1-1)*

Mystery host: You always love to see someone deliver death from above, but is it too little, too late?

*Swordfighter comes back and sends Falcon flying with an up-smash, which shouldnt have killed Falcon, but he is apparently disoriented and falls off the side of the stage instead of landing on it and screws up his recovery, falling to his defeat (Swordfighter wins 1-0)*

Mystery host: Mii Swordfighter (Zero) wins! Another big upset by the Mii fighters!

Mystery co-host: Captain Falcon made too many careless mistakes, perhaps a veterans overconfidence. Not sure why he was so cocky though. I've personally never had any problems with him.

Match 4: Donkey Kong vs. Ike

Mystery host: In terms of raw power, these might be two of the strongest Smash fighters out there, so we should see a lot of offense!

*Both fighters come out throwing haymakers and accumulate a lot of damage quickly. DK forces Ike off the side, Ike grabs the ledge and holds on, DK knocks him off the ledge and then blasts him with an air tilt to KO Ike (3-2 DK)*

Mystery co-host: DK shows a lot of versatility in the air, which you wouldnt expect from someone his size!

*Ike wastes no time evening things up, immediately blasting DK with two up-smashes to KO him (2-2)*

Mystery host: Smart move by Ike to try to KO DK as quickly as possible to keep things even.

*Offensively evenly matched fight as they continue trading blows, DK once again forces Ike off the edge and pushes him out with an air-tilt, which isnt an instant KO, but pushes Ike too far away to recover (2-1 DK)*

Mystery co-host: Once again, DK proves to be the superior combatant when both are in the air. Thats proving to be the difference so far.

*DK is determined not to let Ike KO him again so easily and comes out landing smash after smash and then finishes him off with an up-smash (DK wins 2-0)*

Mystery host: Donkey Kong wins! Wow, the ape didnt choke! Who wouldve expected that?

Mystery co-host: If you like hard-hitting offense, then this was the match for you. Donkey Kong looks like a force to be reckoned with here.

Match 5: Bowser vs. King Dedede

Mystery host: These two fighters put the heavy in heavyweight! Bowser is our heaviest fighter and Dedede is third heaviest, so we could see some difficulty in these guys getting launched off the screen.

*Bowser comes out hitting hard and KOd Dedede with an offensive flurry (3-2 Bowser)*

Mystery co-host: So much for struggling to get KOs! Bowser made that look easy.

*Bowser makes a careless mistake following Dedede off the ledge and cant get back (2-2)*

Mystery host: A pair of clumsy kings, hahaha! How could they ever lay claim to being one of the best villains ever?

*Bowser comes back hitting hard and smashes Dedede off the stage (2-1)*

Mystery co-host: Bowser not messing around. This could be a shutout if he hadnt slipped up early.

*Dedede does some damage but its never enough to KO Bowser, who eventually crushes him with an up-smash to finish the fight (Bowser wins 2-0)*

Mystery host: Bowser wins! He certainly proved me wrong!

Mystery co-host: Bowser worked fast, finishing the fight in 2 minutes exactly.

Whew, and that's all for tonight. More tomorrow!

Good first show!

I hope we get some comebacks as we go though.

I've already run all the middleweight matches, and I can tell you that there was a comeback in one of them!

Don't worry. You aren't the only one!

And I can at least assure you that you won't go 0-5 again today...!

Yay, I'm 1-0 so far! My 'strategy' of only betting on my favorites seems to be working out, I say before the rest of my bets inevitably fail to pan out.

Also, I think I already know who the mystery hosts are. (Spoilers, don't click if you want to keep up the suspense): I'm pretty sure they're Sephiroth and Crono.

Middleweight Tournament

Match 1: Chrom vs. Dr. Mario

Mystery host: We step down a weight class and begin the middleweight tournament with a random Fire Emblem cloneAll these clones, its too much, if you ask meand Mario committing malpractice by impersonating a doctor.

*Dr. Mario starts off strong, but Chrom begins landing strong attacks and eventually pushes Dr. Mario off too far to recover (Chrom 3-2)*

Mystery co-host: Chroms power advantage is evident in the early going here!

*Dr. Mario comes back with a furious charge and KOd Chrom at a low percentage (2-2)*

Mystery host: Impressive comeback by Dr. Mario to even the score!

*Dr. Mario makes a silly mistake and ends up self-destructing at a low percentage (Chrom 2-1)*

Mystery co-host: Dr. Mario is wasting a good defensive performance here! If Chrom wins, itll be because Mario was complicit in his own demise.

*Dr. Mario gets a Final Smash but cant finish off Chrom, but Chrom later gets pushed out too far to recover by a side smash (1-1)*

Mystery host: Looks like its going to come down to the wire. Dr. Mario has been the better fighter so far, but its anybodys game now!

*Once again, Dr. Mario knocks Chrom out too far, who cant recover (Dr. Mario wins 1-0)*

Mystery host: Dr. Mario wins! I have to begrudgingly admit that he fought hard to come back from some early mistakes.

Mystery co-host: Chrom could barely get any offense going beyond the opening part of the match and let himself get put in bad situations. This was a lot more one-sided than the final score indicates. Dr. Mario only took 104% damage for the entire match.

Match 2: Inkling vs. Diddy Kong

Mystery host: Im not even sure what an Inkling is, but I hope it can give us a good match today.

*Diddy gets covered in ink from the start, Inkling dominates the first part of the match and sends Diddy flying with an up-smash (3-2 Inkling)*

Mystery co-host: Wow, color me impressed, quite literally!

*Diddy seemed to get behind Inklings Final Smash, but then jumped into the edge of it. Diddy eventually gets knocked off too far to recover (3-1 Inkling)*

Mystery host: Hahaha, I guess Diddy isnt smarter than the average chimp if he cant even avoid that Final Smash!

*Diddy struggles to land any sort of decisive killing blow, but finally gets a Smash Ball and KOd Inkling with a Final Smash (2-1 Inkling)*

Mystery co-host: Diddy desperately needed that Smash Ball and got it. Can he use the momentum to stage a big comeback?

*Diddy holds on despite Inklings superior offense for as long as he can, but he eventually gets side-aired off the stage at 155% (Inkling wins, 2-0)*

Mystery host: Inkling wins! I wasnt expecting such a dominant performance from her.

Mystery co-host: Diddys lack of a reliable finishing blow really hurt his chances in this match, but Inkling proved to be difficult for him to consistently hit anyway.

Match 3: Ness vs. Pit

Mystery host: Two of our shortest and dumbest names are facing off in this match!

*Pit tries to overwhelm Ness with sheer speed but leaves himself open when he misses. The two go back and forth until Pit lands an up-smash to KO him (3-2 Pit)*

Mystery co-host: Despite their different fighting styles, they seem to be evenly matched.

*Unfortunately, Pit is already at a high percentage, so Ness comes in and almost immediately KOd him with a side smash (2-2)*

Mystery host: Ness wastes no time getting revenge, but personally, I think sometimes its okay to play the long game.

*Pit gets a Smash ball but Nesss percentage is too low to KO him. Pit nearly pushes Ness out too far but he barely manages to get back to the stage. Pit lands an up air to KO Ness (2-1 Pit)*

Mystery co-host: Ness is showing admirable resilience for a kid his age, but hes just a step behind.

*Once again, Pits percentage is too high, and after a few whiffs, Ness manages to land the up-smash to KO Pit (1-1)*

Mystery host: This match has been pretty intense for a pair of pipsqueaks.

*A Smash ball drops right next to Pit, and this time it successfully KOd Ness for the win (Pit wins 1-0)*

Mystery host: Pit wins! Feels like he got a bit lucky if you ask me.

Mystery co-host: Very tightly fought match. Pit getting a couple of Smash balls made all the difference here.

Match 4: Roy vs. Robin

Mystery host: Its a Fire Emblem on Fire Emblem fight, so the franchise will at least finally manage to win a match!

*Roy gets too aggressive from the start and winds up under the stage and getting KOd at 5% (Robin 3-2)*

Mystery co-host: Come on, dont give redheads such a bad name by being a hothead.

*The two fighters go back and forth dealing damage until Robin hits Roy with his side-B and sends him flying off the stage (Robin 3-1)*

Mystery host: Yikes, this is embarrassing for Roy. Hes getting totally outclassed.

*Right afterwards, a Smash ball appears and Robin grabs it. Roy desperately manages to knock it out of Robin and take it for himself, but then Robin takes it back from him before he can use it, too. Roy tries hard to knock it out yet again, but unfortunately, Robin nails the finisher to end the match (Robin wins 3-0)*

Mystery host: Robin wins! And to add insult to injury with this shutout, Roy cant be too happy that his tag team partner, Chrom, joined in to finish the fight! Well see if it impacts their tag team match later in the week.

Mystery co-host: Roys early mistake set the tone for the rest of the match as he was never really able to build any sort of momentum.

Match 5: Marth vs. Lucario

Mystery host: Fire Emblem? Again? Oh well, at least one of those plucky underdog Pokemon is here to root for.

*Marth gets out to an early advantage, but Lucario manages to land some smashes and counters to even things up. Eventually, Lucario lands a forward-smash to send Marth off the screen (Lucario 3-2).*

Mystery co-host: Wow, Pokemon out to an early lead. That never happens!

*Marth grabs a Smash ball immediately after reappearing but misses. Lucario nearly lands a meteor strike but Marth avoids it. Lucario lands a fully charged Aura Sphere and follows it up with an up-air to KO Marth again (Lucario 3-1).*

Mystery host: You cant miss a wide open attack from the back when its right there in front of you. Marth will regret that one.

*Marth finally KOd Lucario by hitting two straight neutral Bs (Lucario 2-1).*

Mystery co-host: Marth may have waited too long to start taking this fight seriously. Underestimate Pokemon at your own peril.

*Marth continues to stay on the offensive and nearly pushes Lucario off the bottom of the screen a couple of times, but Lucario manages to hold on. A Smash ball appears and Lucario KOd Marth in the scuffle trying to break it open (Lucario wins 2-0).*

Mystery host: Lucario wins! Wow, could we see a Cinderella run from Lucario in this tournament?

Mystery co-host: In terms of damage given, it was pretty even, but Lucario was able to land the killing blows when he needed them. Marths peak damage was only 107%.

And that's all for today!

Aw yeah, my bet that the CPU wouldn't be able to kill Lucario effectively once he hit high Aura paid off

Went 3-2 today, currently at 5-5! I'll take it!
