I mean, the rathtars were pointless, but not offensive. Its the same mindless "break up the boring parts with an action scene" that's everywhere else.

Eh they weren't pointless. I mean, there were a hundred ways they could have done it but they (and the two loan sharks) establish Han's character as the guy who enters your life and immediately makes it a hundred times more complicated. Also as the guy who barely manages to escape through sheer dumb luck.

Watching Han's head move like a fuckin' robot to dodge a laser that already misses him by like an entire 2 or 3 feet is just hilarious to watch. To this day I will never understand how anyone allowed Lucas to do that to the film, or why the fuck it hasn't been removed by Disney.
