I'm really distrustful of free-to-play games generally and don't enjoy them that much... but on the other hand it looks REALLY good. I'm kind of tempted to pick it up and give it a spin at least. Anyone play it yet? Is it fun?

The single player angle and waifus intrigue me.

Mobile performance, ridiculous drop rates, and PC rootkit do not.

I tried this a bit this morning, but as expecting the game absolutely roasts my phone. It does seem pretty neat though, so I may try the PS4 version later.

decided to give it a shot anyway, it's not valorant bad drm, which isn't saying much. this one seems like it's supposed to close when the game does but that hasn't happened yet. and honestly, even if it does i'm not sure i'd trust that it's closed. don't know how long i'll try this game but it's surprisingly good.

granted i did also get lucky and rolled Mora (5 star) and Fischl (4 star) in my two discount rolls so uhhh...
yeah, gacha luck strikes again.

both are stupidly good units and the synergy between them is basically a constant "I win."

PS4 version chugs a little on a base model but seems okay otherwise. Menu navigation is a little finicky too.

Anyone playing on the PS4 version should know that you can't use your account made on the PS4 on any other devices because it is tied to your PSN account.

PC/Mobile can use the same account though.

There have been concerns about the Genshin Impact anti-cheat system, and miHoYo committed to making sure it both works more effectively and also isnt running when it shouldnt be on its official site. The developer also confirmed its anti-cheat isnt taking personal information and only looks at system information to stop plug-ins that could let people cheat in-game.

As part of the commitment, miHoYo said that all changes will be made within the next 30 hours. That means people shouldnt see the Genshin Impact anti-cheat running if they arent in or dont have the game and it should be better at catching people cheating by September 29, 2020.

I had some pals who took the plunge on the game. I was tempted to do the same until I read about this rootkit. Will probably avoid until they fix this issue, which it seems they're addressing.

in this case, a kernal 0 rootkit is direct access to your system as if you were an admin.
they've been known to fuck with your system pretty badly by limiting what it can do. valorant is the most recent worst case example as it's straight up prevented physical hardware changes from working right. this one isn't nearly as bad and doesn't seem to carry many negatives to it (i'm sure there's a performance hit somewhere) so it's not the worst but the existence is, and should be, alarming.

Got to play a little last night and Im enjoying it. Game is very pretty for a free game. Pleasantly surprised so far.

Got Noelle and only Noelle from the discount character wise. Totally fine with that though because I like her design. Not really sure where the summon currency comes from yet or anything. Im not sure how everything works just yet, but Im having quite a lot of fun. Im already killing enemies several levels above me, but its probably because theyre just garden variety goons still.

Noelle is guaranteed on your first pull from that banner.

It still has a rootkit that's at kernal 0 but this does make it less intrusive.

Noelle seems really good for a free character. Barrier, DPS healing, great at crushing ore, cool AoE spin attack and super move that makes her sword bigger so you can hit even more enemies at once.

Noelle I think is like bottom 3. But she's the "free" healer. So you might have to use her anyway. Most characters are really good tho.

Amber, Noelle and Bennett are supposedly the bad characters.

Her AoE cooldowns are long and her AoE isn't big enough. Damage is also not as great as anyone else. Bow+Fire is definitely nice.

depends on what you're running it on.
mobile, yeah. shit. use only for gacha stuff because it's worthless otherwise.

ps4, laggy as fuck.
pc, lower your settings. it doesn't look intensive but can take up a ton of CPU and the game still looks good on Low.

Been playing it a bit, this thing is like the definition of a 5/10 game. Jank mediocrity that cribs a lot from better games in a half assed way.

The only thing Id give BotW over this is polish. Everything else Im liking way more in Genshin Impact so far (combat, characters, story, music, world)

I'll give you that combat has the potential to be better but as it is it's too janky. Everything else I prefer BotW, especially story and characters. I'll take BotW's understated story and characters I like over GI's super generic anime schlock any day.

Don't even remember any music from GI and the world is literally just a worse BotW visually.

Yeah, definitely wont be finding much of anything to agree on! Im not as far into this as BotW when I quit enjoying it so well see how this holds up when Im further in.

You can complete the current story content with just the story characters youre given from what I understand. May require a bit of grinding to upgrade them, but its doable.

At the very least Id do the discounted summon for the guaranteed Noelle since she can heal your team. Not sure when or if theres a free healer you can grab later on in the game though

Okay. I think I'll continue to hold off but will grab the healer if necessary

Did the 2nd guaranteed and got Sucrose. A wind Mage with glasses she would look far better without. Wonder if you can customize that kinda thing later on in Wardrobe
