You know, this isn't a terrible point. A lot of John Cena's tenure does seem like something I don't recall anything about.

I can't even remember his first world title victory.

My hottest? take is that despite being the top star in wrestling for about 15 years, WWE actually held Cena back relative to where his talent should have taken him.

100%

Cena's WWE career is kinda like if Hogan had a 15 year run where he replayed his WWF 1990-1993 tenure over and over

Hogan was still the biggest guy in the pond in the strong majority of that stretch but it's hard to argue there was a lot there that made him a huge deal. His biggest moment in that span was probably his match with Warrior. Lot of filler. That's basically Cena's whole career, a big star saddled with filler in a holding pattern.

I'll agree with this.

I also feel like this is result of them not creating anyone on his level during this time too. It's bizarre that they were so afraid to have someone on Cena's level. It's why "Can Cena overcome the odds!?" is such a meme because the odds were always in his favor because nobody was ever on his level, really.

I imagine if Cena and Orton only had one match ever and it was super built up, he could have been Cena's Ultimate Warrior.

Otherwise yeah Cena's career was feuding with a bunch of Earthquakes and Sgt Slaughters, with an occasional misused potential Ric Flair thrown in.

Anyway the answer to thr question is probably when he tapped out Trips at mania and the crowd didn't have the desired reaction. That pretty much defined Cenas trajectory

Hell in a Cell card
McIntyre vs Orton for WWE title
Reigns vs Jey in an I Quit match for Universal title
Bayley vs Sasha for SD Women's title
Otis vs Miz for MITB Briefcase
Jeff Hardy vs Elias

I guess at least one or two more matches get added at the very last minute this weekend. All 3 title matches are official Hell in a Cell bouts so they'll eat up a lot of time.

Cenas first world title victory is easy to remember for me because it happened on the same night Batista won his first world title.

Oddly enough his US title win from Big Show is the first thing that comes to mind when I think "John Cena title wins".

these are definitely the most memorable - the problem is they're both undercard. it's crazy there isn't a bigger John Cena main event win

Like... look at his 16 World title wins

- JBL at Wrestlemania 21
- Edge at Royal Rumble 06
- Edge at Unforgiven 06*
- Jericho at Survivor Series 08*
- Edge (and Big Show) at Wrestlemania 25
- Orton at Breaking Point
- Orton at Bragging Rights 09*
- The Elimination Chamber in 2010
- Batista at Wrestlemania 26
- The Miz (and John Morrison) at Extreme Rules 11*
- Rey Mysterio on Raw, July 2011
- Del Rio at Night of Champions 11
- The Rock at Wrestlemania 29*
- Del Rio at Hell in a Cell 13
- The 8 man ladder match at Money in the Bank 14*
- Styles at Royal Rumble 17

Only 6 of those (where asterisks are) were PPV main events. You'd think his biggest win was The Rock, but that came a year after Once in a Lifetime and everyone knew who was winning the rematch.

Honestly, Cena's had more monumental moments losing the title than winning it.

- Edge via first MITB cash in ever
- RVD at Hammerstein Ballroom
- Edge sneaking into an Elimination Chamber
- CM Punk at Money in the Bank
- Bryan at Summerslam
- Brock at Summerslam

Drew and Orton manage to exit through the cell door during a scuffle and a few minutes later they brawl to the back. The referee (who is still in the ring) counts to 10 and the match ends in a double countout. This leads to another match at the December PPV because they need to team up to fight Team Smackdown(! Live) at Survivor Series because Vince can't resist a BATTLE OF THE BRANDS(trademark).

This is peak. Give the guy the MITB and then be like "Oh shit we actually need to book this guy in a title match shit." At least let him waste his cash-in or something on a Raw like Sandow.

You're right, he was. I guess I forgot because it's stupid af to have separate brands when they've met in the same arena every week for the past 7 months.

Even worse, it was Tucker turning heel on Otis tonight. Tucker, who's also on Raw, while Otis stayed on Smackdown.

So in a span of a month, Otis loses his girlfriend, tag team partner, and a guaranteed World title shot.

No. The Uso in the match wouldn't quit, so when the other tried to save him, Reigns attacked him, making the first Uso quit to stop it.

Mostly good ppv for the most part from what I've heard. One thing amuses me though...

After being beaten by The Hurt Business last Monday, Retribution challenges any of them to a singles match tonight. Retribution selects Slapjack, Hurt chooses Lashley. Lashley wins again.

And people wonder why no one is taking Retribution seriously.

Also, Orton's record in HIAC is pretty stout
Wins: Cena, Sheamus, Bryan, Hardy, McIntyre
Losses: Taker, Henry, Cena

Update on The Man titles after this weekend:

- Sasha ends Bayley's 2 month run as The Man, as well as her 380 day run as Women's champion.
- From the times The Man was vacated, then said vacater returned to action (Edge in 11, Batista in 14, Reigns in 18), Orton won back one of two remaining inactive Man titles tonight (while tying HHH for 2nd most world titles!). Samoa Joe still has the other inactive Man title, as well as the custody rights to Dominick Mysterio.
- Impact's The Man championship (technically the most legit since Ric Flair's final match occurred there) switched hands at Bound for Glory when Rich Swann defeated Eric Young

Fastest to 14 world title reigns...

Ric Flair: September 1981 to March 1999 (17 years, 6 months; debatable though, cause if you count his unofficial title wins, it becomes 10 years, 4 months. Possibly less)

HHH: August 1999 to January 2016 (16 years, 5 months)

Orton: August 2004 to October 2020 (16 years, 2 months)

Cena: April 2005 to October 2013 (8 years, 6 months)
