Wouldn't recommend unless you can read Japanese because there's a LOOOOT of text and stuff that differs from how it's presented in the PS2 titles.

I thought I just forgot what Zohars and Emulators were because it's been so long since I played, but the in-game dictionary doesn't seem to have a fucking clue what they are either.

The Zohar is the monolith/plot mcguffin for the series, the Zohar Emulators are manmade pale imitations of the original.

Albedo is one of my favorite villains ever. Dude is fucking terrifying.

Anyway, 2nd game grew on me as I got into the post game bosses. The combat system is tedious for random encounters but a strategic blast for bosses. Taking an hour to fight a boss is actually rewarding in this case. The ending is pretty great too.

Third game I was oddly meh about. Wrapping up like 30 plot points in a single game made it seem pretty rushed. It's nice that it got a real ending though.

To understand the Zohar you gotta play Xenogears which is not directly related to saga. Actually there was a time it kinda was going to be but whatevs.
However, from there you know what the Zohar is.

Also, imo only xenosaga 1 is good.

3 was alright but it was still a departure from 1.

2 started the departure and I hated the proto ffxiii stagger based combat.

A being from the 4th dimension world got trapped in the Zohar. He was essentially considered god. His power was used to power the Deus system cause it was infinite power. It called itself the wave existence.

Step one: have Shion and Jr. in your party
Step two: unlock Shion's aoe heal ether skill
Step three: abuse stat boost items after the first time it uses earthquake in preparation for the battle of attrition
Step four: boost to do extra healing when necessary

<.< Xeno 2 predates ffxiii by several years and did it a whole lot better, people just didn't want to bother learning how to prevent the enemies from counter boosting

I know but ffxiii is more mainstream.
When played ffxiii I said "ugghh, they copied the combat of the game that killed the xenosaga series. What a great idea!"

Nah. It did it different, not better. Though I'm not sure this topic is a good place to dig into the comparison.

I say that as someone who really enjoyed X2's combat. At the time I played I liked it more than X1's combat (especially ES combat >> AGWS), although I otherwise preferred X1. If I were to go back I don't know if I would still prefer X2 combat over X1 but it would be close. Either way I overall prefer X3's combat and gameplay--the main downside to that game is how much story they had to cram in.

I killed it with the wrong character so now I have to do 1500 more damage what the actual fuck is this bullshit

This evacuation sequence is great, but the battles are really dragging it down.

Im a bit confused, I had aoes with shion and jr pretty early.

His ricochet attack and then the one where he flies up and bullet storms, shion fires down energy strikes. Plus kosmos insanity.

I havent played since the game released, but I remember thinking those were cool.

If I remembered details better I'd try to offer advice about the battle system, but I only remember some vague stuff about it and that I really enjoyed it. These games are right behind my top tier of RPG battle systems.

They threw a boss at me with no accessible save point after 2 hours of grueling gameplay did anyone playtest this shit

Oh, and ether down (if you have Shion's Queen's Kiss, use it) really helps. When they split, one is weak to spirit skills.

And AGWS still are an option.
