Series X
Niccce. What games you picking up with it? I want Gears Tactics and DMC5 SE.

I was only gonna get the Series X, but then I fell ass-backwards into a PS5 pre-order and was like "I never have any luck, so I should take this" and Demon's Souls looks rad, so w/e. Plus I will want FF16.

I said none but that could change eventually. I really wish they'd just make all games for PC.

MS is putting basically everything on PC, Sony is starting to, and thanks to P4 Golden killing it on Steam, Sega might show it some more love too, based on how stoked they were at its crazy numbers. I'd like a high-end gaming PC again, but I have a mid-tier one right now that runs everything pretty well and I am generally just happier on console even though I know it's never gonna be as good in many ways.

For the price of a Series X though, you'll be hard pressed to find a PC that performs as well.

Mine was like upper tier when I built it 8 years ago, now it's low end. Still better playing on PC. And yeah, everything is moving towards digital only PC which is what I want but it's taking far longer than I hoped. Every console generation keeps being billed as the final one but then they come out with new shit.

Yeah, not having permanent access to my games and having the devs/publishers be the sole people to control whether tomorrow my games are still playable is great.

I think for MS there are no more gens. The MS store is basically Steam with video content now. The cutoff will be outdated hardware with too-low specs, as is the case with PC. I can't see MS dropping Xbox now unless sales nosedive.

Nintendo has been doing its own thing since the Wii. I don't see that ever changing. They'll maybe go up and down in popularity, but I can't see their business model outright dying anytime soon. Maybe once Millennials are mostly dead of old age, but not before that.

Sony is the one that's sort of a worry. They're sticking with traditional formulas the most, when that seems obsolete. It feels like they're playing catch-up with PSNow and b/c a lot. I think seeing the shift too late is why they finally started putting stuff onto PC. I think the PS5 will be rad, but their "we dunno if it'll be the last PS" seems like a pretty honest prediction from them right now. But I mean people really need to stop comparing them to MS. MS made like $125B in profits last year. Sony made $6B in profits. When Phil Spencer said Amazon and Google are MS's competition, monetarily he's right.

Dude. Many physical games now require patches to work properly or sometimes at all. I bought Control UE the other day and it needed to download most of the game... except they forgot to upload that patch and it was literally unplayable. As file sizes grow, disc drives stop being included, and BRs stop being improved for space, physical is done. It kinda sucks and I get what you're saying, but so many games are already basically useless or inferior regardless of owning a disc.

This has nothing to do with PC or digital only. With a digital game, you still have the game fully downloaded. The file is on your hard drive same as the disc is on your shelf for a physical copy. The methods they use to try and control it are easily circumvented after the fact if they ever take it down. It's never been a problem and it never will be for any length of time and the minor rare inconvenience is EASILY worth the massive advantages of digital.

It depends entirely on what exclusives will be available, so that will almost certainly rule out Xbox yet again. It's too early to tell on PS5, but it could happen, just as I'm basically skipping the Switch. It would be nice if PS5 had enough exclusives that interested me, though, especially if PS5 ran FFXIV even better than the 4 does at the moment. By the time I know the answer to this, the FFVII Remake trilogy should be out, or close to it, in its entirety, and I will then consider getting an external hard drive just for that trilogy. xD

Control Ultimate's incident led me to have an epiphany the other day... That anything I buy physical will need me to keep an old console hooked up, defeating the purpose of b/c and leading me to worry that when/if it craps out down the line I will wish I'd owned a digital copy to move forward into the future forever. I don't really trust Nintendo to not screw that up. Sony I mostly do, but they're the most at risk of not existing in the future... but I have full faith in Valve and MS and buy most stuff from their stores digitally. When MS shut down its e-reader thing, it refunded everything to everyone voluntarily. And if they close up shop, it's probably because civilization collapsed, and at that point I'm more worried about survival.

I mean, is there any nintendo game more than 10 years old that can't be emulated? Nintendo keep making weak hardware and games people care about which is the perfect recipe for good community made emulation.

That's true. I personally don't like "fake games" (IE: I like owning them legit), but past a point if Nintendo doesn't allow people to give them money people tend to take that into their own hands and I can't blame em

Not a fan of MS, dissatisfied with PS lately, I'm considering the possibility of resorting to Steam to supplement my Nintendo systems in future generations.

tbh, if you're okay with "PC issues" like some wonky ports, bugs, and compatibility issues over time, it's the superior choice as long as you invest well and don't get something lame.

Eventually both. But Ill get the PS5 with Disc drive first. Then an XBox. Dont know the difference between X and S yet, so dont which one Im getting yet.

Edit: Just looked up the difference. The S is digital only. So fuck that shit. Ill be getting the X... Well, and the power, as well... Plus, as long as they dont try any weird shenanigans, I should always have my games without having to worry about something shutting down or getting taken away...

Either way, itll be a while before I get either...

To me, physical died when games started requiring day one patches. 90% of the time you buy a game, pop in the disk, and spend the next 12 hours downloading all of the content required to make the game playable. And if you don't have internet at all, you would be lucky to have anything other then a $60 - $70 demo.

Do I miss being able to unwrap a game, pop it in my console, and start playing it within 5 seconds? Absolutely (although I still kind of get that with Nintendo games which is why I buy them physical), but those days are long gone. With the way gaming is nowadays, it just makes sense to switch to digital, especially since I can pre-load the game a week before and start playing it the second it is released.
