How do you hide/protect the glass ball that contains your life?

Probably just hide it somewhere or treat it as an ornament with no monetary value and just "emotional" value. That way anyone would just be careful with it and not want to steal it either.

I wouldn't. I don't want to live forever, that's terrible. I simply keep it around and never tell anyone what it is, if they ask I will say it's a replacable decoration.

And then my new life span is tied to when fate decides the ball must be broken. And so the cycle continues.

That's almost the worst parody I can think of a movie. The villain is immortal and no selling everything, then it cuts to space, where his ball of life is flying through. And then a meteoroid smacks it and shatters it. Cut back to the fight, and he just drops dead on the spot. Cue the confused heroes being hailed as killers of the unkillable.

reminds me of the (fmab spoilers) wrath vs scar fight where wrath is about to kill scar but then the solar eclipse moves slightly, reflects off wraths sword and blinds him

There's so many ways a glass ball can still break under protections. Developing technology in multiple fields would inevitably put the glass at risk no matter what you did.

If you can't imagine how, try sonic vibrations for one of hundreds of examples.

That scene was supposed to be dramatic irony. Wrath was in the middle of blaspheming against God, and the sun is the symbol of God in alchemy, so technically he was finally defeated through God's intervention.

That sounds super risky...Can I cut off my hand while leaving the ball intact and not die?

If so I might do that and wrap it up tightly and put it inside a heavy duty steel safe with a bunch of soft stuff packed around it so it won't break from any movement.
