You kind of do.

Again, spoiler ahoy territory. Others might disagree that you need to do all of them, for various reasons.

I think you do, though. Except maybe the secondary black eagles route, which is kind of superfluous.

Or more specifically, I think you need to do Golden Deer for a full story overview. Blue Lions isn't exactly important for the story itself, sort of, but it gives momentous context to the conflict at the heart of the game that you don't get in the other routes.

OK. Good to know. How long are these paths chapter wise too? I feel like this path is getting relatively close to finishing. Like 70% done. Yet its only Chapter 14. I feel, like time is running out when other Fire Emblems seemed to average 25-30 chapters

Black Eagles is significantly shorter than the other paths. The others are around the 22-23 chapters mark. There's some differences in numbers between them, but it's around that.

Generally yes. That being said, Golden Deer and the Church Route are extremely similar. If you want to play all routes I would space those playthroughs out.

In regards to that comment, I'd also say play Golden Deer before the Church route. Because yes, they are very similar, but Golden Deer just does it better. If you play the lesser version first, you'd likely be more annoyed having to re-tread some of the stuff rather than being engaged.

Also, Golden Deer has Hilda by default so its the best route.

Yeah Hilda is probably my favorite character from Golden Deer. She's the Cordelia Chase of the house.

Hidden potential. Its a skill they're weak at to start, but if you personally tutor them enough times it becomes a strength and gives an extra skill related to it.

You have to unlock her faith to make her a Gremory which is OP.

In the future, all magic units should have some basic healing. Even Hubert who has a permanent weakness in faith should at least level it up enough to get the basic Heal spell.

It's just how the magic system works in Three Houses that there's no reason not to have a magic unit focus on both Reason and Faith. Except maybe a few specific units. Manuela has a weakness in reason and I think she only gets like 3 spells from grinding it up, so maybe her? I've only used her in one playthrough, though so I dunno. Seems like it was a waste beyond the threshold for class unlocks.

Yes yes yes holy shit yes but you NEED to make sure you shatter them and get the item.

They have extremely powerful equipment drops and rare ores.

I hate aux battles with a passion in Fire Emblem. Their main purpose is to overlevel you with low quality content.

Honestly, most of them once your units promote. I don't think there was a promoted magic class in the GBA games that couldn't use staffs. Same with the Tellius ones.

True but it looks like everyone can use staffs in this game though correct? That is what makes it cheesy. Unless Im misunderstanding. Since everyone seems to be able to use everything.

EDIT: Actually, Im not sure about if everyone can heal but you do make a good point that everyone magic user could heal before. It just seems like I can go down a path to make everyone be able to heal which seems weird

Most physically-focused classes can't use magic. I think the only ones that can are Enlightened One, Commoner/Noble, Mortal Savant, Trickster (DLC), War Cleric (DLC) and Dancer if you count that as physical.

So it's not like you can just teach healing to the units you plan to make a wyvern lord or bow knight, or whatever and have everyone being able to heal.

Does Claude every return after you let him live? In fact, does he backstab you later? It seems that giving the option to kill or let him go could possibly come back to bite me. I mean... there has to be a benefit in killing someone who has the option to kill them right?

On the Insurmountable side mission, is there a point when reinforcements stop spawning? Im on turn 14 defending the gate and reinforcements are still respawning. Im ok with all the experience but respawns never stop Ill have to change my strategy and go on the offensive.

Im bookmarking the game right now. Ill get back on it tomorrow

Nope, that mission has infinitely spawning reinforcement. But also when missions have reinforcements that respawn indefinitely they have diminishing exp yields until you just get 1 class exp (even with a knowledge gem equipped, which should usually give you 4), 1 weapon/authority exp and pitiful leveling exp even for killing them.

OK thanks. Kinda weird that the game wants you to defend an area but throw infinite waves of enemies at you to get you to move. The game even goes out its way to tell you to use your structures to set up a perimeter strategically just for it to not be the correct strategy

I just finished the mission post time skip I think like chapter 17 of Golden Deer where you reunite in battle with Edelgard and Demitri . Feels bad having to slaughter everybody. Maybe it'll get answered in the Blue Lion playthrough but idk what reason D had to not join up with Claude. I didn't like that that didn't happen.

I think the student/Byleth characters get a minimum of 2 stat ups per level, but faculty members can get 0 stat ups.

Dorothea did grow on me tremendously. She had great character... development? Im not sure if that is the right term. I think it was more like I misunderstood her. I thought she was just the typical fake nice girl who used her looks to get ahead in life with no effort. The game even reinforced that early on with how she had a different man a different day of the week.

Not only was I wrong about everything but she also was a hard worker as well. Completely proved me wrong

Same, but I was liking her for the boobs at first, i can't lie. And then her backstory and her relationship to Ferdinand were revealed. I legit think she's best girl now. Hell, the war affected her HARD. Pre-war one of her win quotes is something like "Every rose has it's thorn!" but during the war that changes to "Only thorns left on this rose."

Just finished the Golden Deer path, first playthrough. Took me about 90 hours, sheesh. The last mission was way harder than the rest of the game. Ended up marrying Hilda. Should have picked Alois to see what the male-male ending was like.

Yeah, Golden Deer final mission is probably the hardest on normal/hard. Grats on finishing. Now to do all the other routes. Right now.

Leonie is probably the best archer in the game, is stupidly fast, and has good bulk, and great proficiencies.

Question, if I promote Bernadetta to a Bow Knight, does she still keep all of her Combat Arts even though it is more like a lateral move than a pure promotion? I was wondering why people don't Snipers aren't that good in this game when they feel really strong. However, if they keep all the Combat Arts from the Sniper after becoming a Bow Knight then I can see Snipers just being inferior Bow Knights. It's kinda weird to balance like that. If they removed dismount and didn't let you keep everything from one class to the other then I think the game would be balanced a lot better IMO. You won't see Flyers and Horseback as the best classes by default.
