It is when you're on a budget.
It was VERY important to me as a kid in the 90s and early 00s. If I got one or two new games a year and it lasted me 8 hours I'd be distraught. These days I don't mind a 6 hour game, though I almost never pay more than $20 or $30. I want it to be the right length for the game. Portal 1 is a fantastic example. Prefect length to me. Also got it apart of the Orange Box, so great value. --- My Words Were True And Sheamus Made You Believe! https://imgur.com/Fc39f ... Copied to Clipboard!

That's the exact sentiment that's leading to the decline of video games. Devs are padding their games with arbitrary, uninteresting bullshit just to hit some arbitrary hour target. It's the same with size of open world games. I don't want a gigantic world if it's like FF15. Give me a solid 10 hour game over some boring ass 40 hour game any day of the week; in one I'm spending $80 to have 10 hours of good time, and the other I'm wasting $80 and 40 hours of my life.

Idgaf as long as the game's good. Video games are already pretty damn cheap per hour on average compared to a lot of other hobbies. Even back when I was on a tighter budget, I'd just replay the crap out of shorter games. That's how I got into speed running Metroid and classic RE games.

This has always been a consideration in gaming, but it's interesting to see how it's changed over the years. In NES days they made games 'nes' hard to justify the price even though the game is only 30 minutes long. I don't game enough with modern popular games to know how it works now, but for a while the modern version of that was that 'radiant quest' stuff

Depends on the genre. An average player would probably take 10-15 hours to get their first successful run in one step from Eden, but that is just a starting point for unlocking most of the content.

A game is only as long as it's able to hold my interest as far as I'm concerned.
If it's too crappy to be worth playing more than an hour, the game is effectively an hour long of crappiness. I'd rather have a good game that's short. If I can find a good game that's long, that's even better. But length-to-price isn't the ultimate metric. Nah
10-15 hours is fine for most games, and reasonably $60 isnt even an outrageous ask what does $60 get you, in other forms of entertainment? how many hours of entertainment do you get when you spend $10-15 to see a movie at the theater, or go to a museum or zoo? $60 is a day at an amusement park, or dinner at a decent restaurant. As for hobbies $60 wont even buy you much in the way of, say, a LEGO kit. You cant buy a decent musical instrument for that price, or itll buy you maybe 3-4 records. I get if you want to play a ton of games it adds up, but I dont expect 100 hours of entertainment from any other $60 purchase and games are no different --- The words of The Golden Eel have been revealed... As for hobbies $60 wont even buy you much in the way of, say, a LEGO kit. As someone with a massive Lego collection, this is absolutely true. A $60 set will typically have 500-700 pieces, which can be assembled in an hour and a half if you take it slow.
