Oh because the whole of modern society is definitely actively doing those things. There is definitely not still a large amount of racists and bigots of all kinds remaining in society today. Especially not in the armed forces.

It might be shocking for some, but people did exist back then that thought things like racism and homophobia were wrong, even if the culture at the time found those things acceptable.

These are opinions that existed waaay before the USA too.

Its totally reasonable to generalize every single veteran of the second world War who fought the nazis but you're gonna pretend that everyone today is above discrimination based on sexuality or race?

Probably had values closer to the Nazi's than they would have had with their own countries today in terms of race, sexuality, class, etc.

Most nations back then had similar ideals on these things. The sticking point was carving up the world.

It's not the end of the world, but we can see it from here.

Rusty is making the best posts itt.

Do people not realize that for things to change people have to want things to change? And that change takes a long time? And that for the many to seek that change requires the few to of the past to push towards that?

One generation off. Baby boomers didn't fight the nazis and they are definitely the cause for the rise of Trump and the alt-right

Of course it's happening, did I ever say that we've stomped out racism or bigotry?

My point is in majorities perception of those things and how far we've come when the generation who we've held up as the greatest generation for fighting for the liberty and values of "the good guys" are actually closer to those of the bad guys than the values we're fighting for now.

But you and others had to put a negative spin on it and decide I'm calling those people foul Nazis instead of saying it's impressive that in many ways we've surpassed the "greatest generation"

It seems this would be a good time to evaluate the way you tried to make this point and attempt to express yourself better in the future then.

Like I said, I'm talking about what the culture/majority/public thought was acceptable, not what each individual person thought.

Maybe you need to look past your own biases and negativity and read what I said rather than what you wanted me to have said.

You were looking for an arguement and a reason to assume I was bashing the people who fought the Nazis. That's entirely on you.

Yeah, like I said, you can't look past what you want to see and accept responsibility.
