Maybe they want Batman to be the "White" superhero. ("We'll let you be Superman, but I wanna be Batman.") Maybe they want good PR. Maybe somebody was wanting to do a Black Superman movie and Warner/DC decided to pacify them with a film. Maybe it's some weird loophole to keep Superman from falling into public domain.
