This game is dated as hell. The enviroments all look the same man... i just dont care about whats going on so far. Idk if it get waaay better later but holy shit. There are like no characters at all. Everyone has the personality of a plank of wood. Its all exposition and "lore"

Halo 2's story is an improvement I guess but most of the story of Halo is just lore lol

If you don't like CE I doubt you'll like the others unless your only issue is the recycled environments

If you're bored, up the difficulty. The game is about shooting stuff, not so much story.

Yeah you should play Halo on at least Heroic. That's where the weapon balance and enemies shine. If you're just charging through with an assault rifle it is a bit boring.

It will make you engage in a lot more of its actual fps mechanics. If you don't care about those maybe you should just go ahead and call it a wash.

Look at it this way. If you don't know the difference between human and Covenant weapons and you don't consider Elites to be an actual threat you need to outsmart then yeah making it more difficult can make the game fun.

If i didnt pay 40 bucks for it id have dropped it already but i want someone to tell me how mich it getter better post halo 1. I cant get a refund anymore and god damn it im not gonna let money go to waste. I wish we could at least gift games you no longer wanna play anymore

the gunplay and the environments get better, minus 1 or 2 levels, but the story kinda stays meh.

still a solid series, even the 1st one (yes it is dated, but i still enjoy it)

The only thing I would say for sure gets better is environment and level design, especially when it comes to pacing. Halo 1 really suffered from the "this started out as a RTS" level of repetition.

But the story is never a major focus, and when it is in the later games they are pretty bad. It's a series of single player fps challenges with some cool lore and set pieces. The later games attempt to appeal to players that are more interested in story but fail miserably. 4 still has decent game play though campaign wise.

Yeah, a game that's considered a masterpiece has the best single player of the series. You're in a place that was constructed by the same architect, it's thematic.

If you try another though maybe try Reach. I would say it has the best story and it's a prequel to 1, so you can try it blind. It goes more for the "war story" direction.

Halo 1 is dated ill admit, but its still fun through my nostalgia goggles. the AI is surprisingly smart for how old it is, and the music is really captivating

Truth and Reconciliation is a god-tier level, but the rest after it get worse and worse. Two Betrayals is almost unplayable after you do it once. but then it comes back with The Maw which is another fantastic level.

But yeah it picks up as it goes. Halo 2 is definitely more fun and more challenging, halo 3 is beautiful

Three missions out of ten are reused and they all appear at the end of the game. And one of them is recycled in a way that's done very well. Some of the earlier missions do feature samey indoor environments, but they're more noticeable because of how long they can be.

The game's story is pretty good even if it's fairly simple with basic characterization. The sequels are all far more heavily story-focused, but there's something appealing about how the first game does it. Maybe because it's much more subtle.

Also I don't know how far you made it TC, but I would at least play up to and through the sixth mission. Something happens there which is much better to experience through the gameplay rather than just watching the cutscenes. If you're still not enjoying it, then move onto Halo 2 after that.

Eh, it's okay. A decent amount of the issues from the borked gear box port have been fixed, with the MAJOR exception being the fucked bump maps.
